Lady GaGa Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hello, hello, baby
You called, I can't hear a thing
I have got no service
In the club, you see, see
Wha-wha-what did you say?
Oh, you're breaking up on me
Sorry, I cannot hear you
I'm kinda busy

K-kinda busy
K-kinda busy
Sorry, I cannot hear you
I'm kinda busy

Just a second
It's my favorite song they're gonna play
And I cannot text you with
A drink in my hand, eh
You shoulda made some plans with me
You knew that I was free
And now you won't stop calling me
I'm kinda busy

Stop callin', stop callin'
I don't wanna think any more
I left my head and heart on the dance floor
Stop callin', stop callin'
I don't wanna talk anymore
I got my head and my heart on the dance floor

Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh
Stop telephonin' me
Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh
I'm busy, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh
Stop telephonin' me
Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh

Call all you want, but there's no one home
And you're not gonna reach my telephone
Out in the club, and I'm sippin' that bub
And you're not gonna reach my telephone

Call all you want, but there's no one home
And you're not gonna reach my telephone
Out in the club, and I'm sippin' that bub
And you're not gonna reach my telephone

Boy, the way you blowin' up my phone
Won't make me leave no faster
Put my coat on faster
Leave my girls no faster
I shoulda left my phone at home
'Cause this is a disaster
Callin' like a collector
Sorry, I cannot answer

Not that I don't like you
I'm just at a party
And I am sick and tired
Of my phone ringin'
Sometimes I feel like
I live in Grand Central Station
Tonight I'm not takin' no calls
'Cause I'll be dancin'

'Cause I'll be dancin'
'Cause I'll be dancin'
Tonight I'm not takin' no calls
'Cause I'll be dancin'

Stop callin', stop callin'
I don't wanna think any more
I left my head and my heart on the dance floor
Stop callin', stop callin'
I don't wanna talk any more
I left my head and my heart on the dance floor

Stop callin', stop callin'
I don't wanna think any more
I left my head and my heart on the dance floor
Stop callin', stop callin'
I don't wanna talk any more
I left my head and my heart on the dance floor

Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh
Stop telephonin' me
Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh
I'm busy, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh
Stop telephonin' me
Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh

Can call all you want but there's no one home
And you're not gonna reach my telephone
'Cause I'm out in the club and I'm sippin' that bub
And you're not gonna reach my telephone

Call all you want but there's no one home
And you're not gonna reach my telephone
'Cause I'm out in the club and I'm sippin' that bub
And you're not gonna reach my telephone

My telephone
M-m-my telephone
'Cause I'm out in the club and I'm sippin' that bub
And you're not gonna reach my telephone

My telephone
M-m-my telephone
'Cause I'm out in the club and I'm sippin' that bub
And you're not gonna reach my telephone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lady GaGa featuring Beyoncé Knowles's song Telephone depict a frustrated protagonist who is trying to enjoy their night out at a club, but can't due to a series of phone calls and texts from an ex-lover. The singer is busy, engaging in the night's festivities, dancing to their favorite song, and sipping on drinks with their friends. However, they can't seem to shake off their persistent ex-lover, who keeps blowing up their phone with calls that they can't answer. The lyrics feature a recurring motif of the singer telling the ex-lover to stop calling, as they don't want to talk or think anymore and just want to dance and have a good time. The song is a defiant anthem for anyone who has ever been bothered by an ex or anyone who can't take a hint.

The song has a deeper meaning than just a fun pop song. Lady GaGa has revealed in interviews that "Telephone" is about her own struggles with fame and the constant telephone calls, text messages, and emails that she receives daily from people who want something from her. It is a commentary on the intense pressure that celebrities face, and their lack of privacy due to constant scrutiny from the public and the media. The song can be seen as a plea from a celebrity to be left alone, to have some time to themselves, and to enjoy their life without being bothered.

I knew it was iconic the day the song came out. I was a young teen back then but had been a massive Gaga fan since Just Dance (still am today and almost 30).

Ever since she released her debuts, I always knew there was something special about her. Then... the day I saw she had collabed with Beyoncé, that's when I officially knew Gaga "had made it!"

Back then, there were a lot of one hit wonders (don't even get me started about the 90s lol 😅), and if you didn't prove yourself as 'more' that was all you were. I was soooo happy for gaga when she released this.
Likewise with "Videophone" with Beyoncé..

I'll always be a Litttle Monster. LOVE Gaga!
