Stand By Me
Lady GaGa feat Sting Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Young teacher, the subject
Of schoolgirl fantasy
She wants him so badly
Knows what she wants to be
Inside her there's longing
This girl's an open page
Book marking - she's so close now
This girl is half his age

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

Her friends are so jealous
You know how bad girls get
Sometimes it's not so easy
To be the teacher's pet
Temptation, frustration
So bad it makes him cry
Wet bus stop, she's waiting
His car is warm and dry

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

Loose talk in the classroom
To hurt they try and try
Strong words in the staffroom
The accusations fly
It's no use, he sees her
He starts to shake and cough
Just like the old man in
That book by Nabakov

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lady Gaga’s song “Stand By Me” featuring Sting are a cover of the popular song by The Police with the same name. The song is about the taboo of a student-teacher relationship and conveys the longing and desire of a schoolgirl for her young teacher. She knows what she wants and tries to get as close as possible to him. However, the teacher knows that this attraction is wrong and tries to resist it, but it is not easy for him. They both struggle with it and the emotions and tension are evident in the lyrics.

The song also touches upon the jealousy of other girls and the talk in the classroom about the taboo topic. The teacher’s frustration and temptation are so strong that it makes him cry. It is a complicated situation, and the song shows the complexity of the tension between the student and the teacher in a thoughtful and meaningful way.

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon
Is the only
Light we'll see

No, I won't
Be afraid
No, I won't
Be afraid
Just as long
As you stand
Stand by me

And darling, darling, stand by me
Oh, now, now, stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountain
Should crumble to the sea

I won't cry
I won't cry
No, I won't shed a tear
Just as long
As you stand
Stand by me

And darling, darling stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me, yeah

Whenever you're in trouble
Won't you stand by me?
Oh, now, now, stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me

Darling, darling, stand by me
Stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me

I love how Lady Gaga sing this song... She is very talented and one of a kind singer. I cried when Michael Jackson died knowing how lucky those people who live in his time and had witnessed all of his God given talents, without thinking I have Lady Gaga of my own time. Indeed, I'll have this story to tell my children.

Lady Gaga’s voice is fricking amazing

@sproing000

It is. But if only she could cut all the BS out and stand like a real singer like Sting. She is too over her head. Sting is light years away from her not only by his performance but also as a person. He does not need any motorcycles, feathers or anything around him to show his quality. No need to show off. He is just good. Kind of tired of fake people.

João Guimarães you want her to play the piano standing??
