Hair
Lady Gaga Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, whoa
Whenever I'm dressed cool
My parents put up a fight
(Uh-huh, uh-huh)
And if I'm hot shot
Mom will cut my hair at night(Uh-huh, uh-huh)
And in the morning, I'm short of my identity
(Uh-huh, uh-huh)
I scream, "Mom and Dad
Why can't I be who I wanna be?"
(Uh-huh, uh-huh) to be
I just wanna be myself
And I want you to love me for who I am
I just wanna be myself
And I want you to know, I am my hair
I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die living just as free as my hair
I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die living just as free as my hair
I've had enough, I'm not a freak
I'm just here trying to stay cool on the streets
I've had enough, enough, enough
And this is my prayer, I swear
I'm as free as my hair
I'm as free as my hair
I am my hair, I am my hair
Free as my hair
As free as my hair
Sometimes I waltz around
Put on red highlights (uh-uh, uh-uh)
Just because I want my friends
To think I'm dynamite (uh-uh, uh-uh)
And on Friday rocks in
High school dance (uh-uh, uh-uh)
I got my bangs too hot
That I don't stand a chance (uh-uh, uh-uh) a chance
I just wanna be myself
And I want you to love me for who I am
I just wanna be myself
And I want you to know, I am my hair
I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die living just as free as my hair
I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die living just as free as my hair
I've had enough, I'm not a freak
I'm just here trying to stay cool on the streets
I've had enough, enough, enough
And this is my prayer, I swear
I'm as free as my hair
I'm as free as my hair
I am my hair, I am my hair
Free as my hair
Free as my hair
I just want to be free, I just want to be me
And I want lots of friends that invite me to their parties
Don't wanna change and I don't wanna be ashamed
I'm the spirit of my hair, it's all the glory that I bare
I am my hair, I am my hair
I am my hair, I am my hair
I am my hair, I am my hair, I am my hair
(Glory that I bare)
I am my hair, I am my hair
It's all the glory that I bare
I am my hair, I am my hair
I'm my hair, yeah, yeah
(All the glory that I bare)
I'm my hair, yeah, yeah
(All the glory that I bare)
I'm my hair, yeah, yeah
(All the glory that I bare)
My hair, yeah, yeah, yeah
I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die living just as free as my hair
I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die living just as free as my hair
I've had enough, I'm not a freak
I'm just here trying to stay cool on the streets
I've had enough, enough, enough
And this is my prayer (this is my prayer) I swear
I'm as free as my hair
I'm as free as my hair (this is my prayer)
I am my hair, I am my hair
Ooh, my hair, my hair
The song "Hair" by Lady Gaga is a powerful anthem about self-expression and identity. The song starts off with the singer talking about how her parents will try to change how she looks. If she's dressed cool, her parents will complain and if she's hot, her mother will cut her hair at night. Lady Gaga talks about how this affects her identity and how she just wants to be herself. She proclaims that she is her hair and that she wants to be loved for who she is.
The second verse talks about how sometimes she changes her appearance just to impress her friends. Even though she sometimes tries to fit in, her hair is always her identity. The chorus repeats the message of the song, that she wants to be herself and be free. Gaga uses her hair as a metaphor for her identity and how she expresses herself.
Throughout the song, Lady Gaga repeats "I am my hair" as a way of reaffirming her identity. She talks about how her hair is the glory that she bears and how she wants to be free and proud of who she is. The song is essentially a call for people to embrace their individuality and to be true to themselves.

@lorenagagamonster

@roman-kx6hp
She said she felt like she wrote this when she was 15, bcausee she couldn't be who she wanted to be, she wanted to be her hair.
@lorenagagamonster
duns Okay, but when/where did she say that?
@roman-kx6hp

@x_euph0ric.
She slays so much. She saved so many people from commiting suicide, mental health issues, depression (including me) etc. Gaga is like a cure to your all problems. She is such a Queen.
She deserves everything in the world, literally I can't describe how much I love her. She helped me with her songs so many times like I can't even count it. SHE IS AN ICON AND SHE IS LEGENDARY!!!!
@vivaliciosa
she's diabolical.. believe it or not she is n she's evil just like every other hollywood celebrity. ofc they gotta pretend they're good ppl so no one judges them bc that's the whole point to attract people n getting more famous but if only u knew how satanic this woman is u wouldn't even listen to her again. whatever, ppl never listen even if the truth it's being told in their own eyes.

I remember crying to this song at night because of suicidal thoughts. She saved so many of us with this album
@chloekral4771
This album got me through high school. I was always the odd one out, but BTW helped me feel like I was worth something, despite what my peers thought of me
