Black Eyes
Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's time to testify
There's no room for life
And everyone's waiting for you
And I'm gone, sitting by the phone
And I'm all alone by the wayside
And I'm gone, sitting by the phone
By the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside
Too far gone and I'm by the phone
And I'm all alone and I'm off alone
By the wayside
By the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside
By the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside
Black eyes open wide
It's time to testify
There's no room for life
And everyone's waiting for you
Everyone's looking at you
Everyone's looking at you
Everyone's waiting for you
Everyone's waiting for you
The lyrics to Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's song "Black Eyes" are open to interpretation, as is often the case with art. However, the following analysis provides one possible interpretation of the lyrics.
The song begins with the image of "black eyes open wide," which could be interpreted as a metaphor for someone who has seen and experienced a great deal in life. The next phrase, "It's time to testify," could be interpreted as a call to share their experiences with others. The line "There's no room for life" could be interpreted as a reflection on the difficulties and challenges that can make it hard to truly live and thrive.
The chorus then brings in the perspective of the singer, who is "gone" and "sitting by the phone" while the person with the black eyes testifies. The image of being "all alone by the wayside" suggests a sense of isolation and being left behind. The repetition of "by the wayside" underscores this feeling of abandonment and loneliness.
Overall, the lyrics of "Black Eyes" suggest a deep sense of longing for connection and understanding. The black-eyed person has seen and experienced much but is also in need of support and empathy. The singer, for their part, is left isolated and alone, perhaps trapped in their own pain and unable to connect with the person testifying.

Bradley Cooper should, seriously, consider a career in music. This man is an epic singer. Country or rock, no matter.
@nomad5155
Naaa, his voice is actually quite awful
@Luca-VA
@@nomad5155 Bro no lmao, if even Lady Gaga says he has a great voice I think that's worth a lot more.
@UNCClassof15

This song in the cinema is the closest thing to being at a real concert caught on film especially the sound.

They filmed this at a real concert. The crowd was told that Cooper was going to come up and they were going to film this for the film. This was that. He played live the best he could and the crowd apparently really liked it but they still dubbed his performance on the guitar do to a few mistakes he made but the crowd was legit.
@justme-cr3xe
i agree. I think this is live though.
