Sugar
Ladytron Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I give you sugar, will you give me something elusive and temporary?
If I give you sugar, will you give me something elusive and temporary?
We've got the signal to leave you alone,
Off where we leave you and off where we find you.
If I give you sugar, will you give me something elusive and temporary?

If I give you sugar, will you give me something elusive and temporary?
If I give you sugar, will you give me something elusive and temporary?
We've got the signal to leave you alone,
Off where we leave you and off where we find you.
If I give you sugar, will you give me something elusive and temporary?

If I give you sugar, will you give me something elusive and temporary?
If I give you sugar, will you give me something elusive and temporary?
We've got the signal to leave you alone,

Off where we leave you and off where we find you.
If I give you sugar, will you give me something elusive and temporary?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ladytron's "Sugar" use sugar as a metaphor for a short-lived pleasure or temporary satisfaction that the singer is seeking in a relationship. The repetition of the question "If I give you sugar, will you give me something elusive and temporary?" emphasizes the singer's desire for this fleeting pleasure. The phrase "something elusive and temporary" implies that the singer recognizes the impermanence of this satisfaction but is still willing to pursue it.

The lines "We've got the signal to leave you alone, Off where we leave you and off where we find you" suggest that the singer is not fully committed to the relationship and is willing to leave at any moment. This echoes the idea of wanting something temporary rather than long-lasting.

Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of ambiguity and an unwillingness to fully commit, with a focus on the temporary pleasure of a relationship rather than its lasting potential.

Ladytron are a band out of time. If they were around in the 80s or 90's they would be massive

@MrRockyVega

I remember the first time I heard this album. It was my very first time hearing anything by Ladytron and I was in a borders bookstore in downtown Chicago previewing music to pass the time. I only picked it up because they had the word "tron" in their name. I've been a fan ever since.
