VERSUS
Ladytron Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Distance versus time,
cutting verses down to size.
Focus versus tears versus
"How did I get here's"
versus curses in your eyes

Force of nature versus range,
nature versus what is strange
"There's a fire starting here"
versus "There's nothing to fear"
versus lonely versus safe

Like a kitten versus rain
A cathedral versus love versus shame

Free versus hard to see
versus, versus, versus me versus me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ladytron's song "Versus" present the listener with a series of opposing forces. The first verse juxtaposes distance and time, questioning the balance between the two. The idea of cutting verses down to size adds to the theme of contrast, as the very act of distilling a message can alter its meaning. Focus and tears are weighed against each other, struggling for prominence in a moment of emotional turmoil. This is further compounded with the idea of "How did I get here's," implying a sense of confusion and disorientation.

The second verse continues to present contrasting binaries, with a force of nature versus range. The wild and unpredictable versus the finite and measured. The line "There's a fire starting here" creates a sense of urgency or desperation, while "There's nothing to fear" seeks to calm and reassure. The final contrasting pair in the verse, lonely versus safe, implies the tension between isolation and the comforts of security.

One of my all time favorite bands since I was a teenager back in the 00's. also I wished Daniel would have sung more often, his voice is absolutely beautiful (pardon my English)

@MusicFanIsabella

This is probably my favorite song by them. It just sounds so foreign.

@Imaginary_mike

I've been listening to electronic music since I was 12 years old and I'm used to the fact that Ladytron is a new wave band for me. Those who appeared after the furious 90's. That's how I perceived them when the first 4 albums were released. After that, I got distracted, but unnoticed by me Ladytron imperceptibly became a classic for me.
