Please Come Home For Christmas
Laine Hardy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bells will be ringin′ this sad, sad news
Oh what a Christmas to have the blues
My baby's gone I have no friends
To wish me greetings once again

S will be singin′ Silent Night
Christmas carols by candlelight
Please come home for Christmas (Christmas),
Please come home for Christmas
If not for Christmas, by New Year's night

Friends and relations send salutations
Sure as the stars shine above
But this is Christmas, yes, Christmas, my dear
Time of year to be with the one you love

So won't you tell me you′ll never more roam?
Christmas and New Year will find you home
There′ll be no more sorrow (sorrow), no grief and pain
And I'll be happy, happy once again
Oohhh

Ooh, there′ll be no more sorrow, no grief and pain
And I'll be happy, Christmas once again

Overall Meaning

Laine Hardy's Please Come Home for Christmas is an emotional song that is expressive of the sorrow and sadness that comes with finding oneself alone during the festive season. The lyrics of the song reflect the feelings of sadness and sorrow that come with being alone at Christmas, while everyone else is spending time with their loved ones. The first stanza expresses the idea that the singer is feeling saddened by the fact that his lover is not there with him. He has no one to share the holiday cheer with, and as a result, the bells ringing for Christmas only serve to worsen his melancholy.

The second stanza depicts the festive mood of the holiday season. The singer mentions the joyous sounds of Christmas carols being sung and candles being lit in preparation for the feasting and celebrations to come. However, despite the festive atmosphere, the singer is still feeling down and wishes for his lover to return for Christmas. He hopes that, if not for Christmas, then perhaps by the New Year, he will be reunited with his lover. Finally, in the last stanza, the singer pleads with his lover to come back home, promising that all the hurt he has felt will disappear the moment his lover is back in his arms. The song's theme of loneliness and longing for lost love is relatable to many people during the festive season.

@mj6962

Yes he is great. Apparently he was on American Idol before? This is the first time I’m seeing and hearing him. Unfortunately ALL of those judges on these singing shows have crap for ears and kick out the good ones. But they welcome in all the terrible singers and act like they’re the best. They never get it right. This kid should be a household name.
