But the band members still continued to hold contact, and after a joint rehearsal session in the summer of 2003 - meant to kill boredom - they got back together. The chemistry between the musicians was as good as ever, and once the rust had been shaken off, they set about working on ideas for new tracks.
With Mikael Larsson on bass guitar and Johan Oudhuis on drums, Lake of Tears released their 7th studio album Moons and Mushrooms on April 26th, 2007. The album features an increasingly heavy approach to guitar-work, which is emblematic of the new release. Though still having mainly a gothic metal sound, there are some progressive metal influences through the album as well, regarding the guitar riffs. Unlike Black Brick Road (whose melodies were primarily conceived via keyboard experimentation), Moons and Mushrooms features songs originating from the band's recent sporadic touring. Thus the riffs were the first musical element conceived, resulting in a heavier, darker sound.

DYSTOPIA
Lake of Tears Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Just how long it takes you know you will learn, to get burned
Do you know what it takes just to burn for a while
And then to put on a smile, cause it burns to play with fire
Sick of it all I am burning always
Do you know which wave to take when it aches
Do you know just how long it takes to get burned
For sure you will learn how it burns
Sick of it all I am burning always
The lyrics to "Dystopia" by Lake of Tears talk about the consequences of playing with fire. The first verse suggests that getting burned takes time and is painful. The second verse asks if the listener knows which path to take when things get difficult and suggests that even if one knows what to do, they will still get burned. The repeated phrase "sick of it all I am burning always" indicates a sense of weariness and hopelessness about the situation.
The lyrics are a metaphor for taking risks and dealing with the consequences of those risks. It's easy to be tempted by the excitement and thrill of taking risks, but as the song suggests, those actions often lead to pain and suffering in the end. The repeated line "sick of it all I am burning always" suggests a sense of resignation and acceptance that the pain is unavoidable.
Interestingly, the lyrics of "Dystopia" were written by the band's drummer, Christian Silver, rather than the band's primary songwriter and vocalist, Daniel Brennare. This suggests that the lyrics may have been a personal reflection on Silver's own experiences with risk-taking and its consequences.
