Black Label
Lamb of God Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The human confrontation, I've build a phobia
It takes my essence somewhere
Somewhere to take control

I may be far from rocking
I am the one alone
I may be far behind lines
And made them turn away

I want to know, hey you, watch out!
I've made them turn to cripple, hey you, watch out!
When i will know, who'll know, back fight!
Why time would let me die to control

I fear nothing, why don't you know!
I rip my mind and why don't you bleed!
I fear no one, why you turn back!
I may not stop

My freedom can't contain but tell me
The pain I liberate
Riff hostility to anyone
Has made us so much hate
I made them turn from hate but tell me
The pain and suffering
I made them turn from hate but tell me

The pain and suffering
I know

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lamb of God's song Black Label are about a person who is confronting their anxiety and fears. The first line states "The human confrontation, I've build a phobia," which reflects the singer's fear of confrontation with other people. The next line, "It takes my essence somewhere, somewhere to take control," suggests that the singer's phobia is taking over their life and controlling them. They feel distant from those around them ("I may be far from rocking, I am the one alone") and misunderstood ("And made them turn away").

The chorus of the song expresses a desire for power and control over others ("I want to know, hey you, watch out! / I've made them turn to cripple, hey you, watch out! / When I will know, who'll know, back fight! / Why time would let me die to control"). The singer wants to assert their dominance and make others fear them ("I fear nothing, why don't you know! / I rip my mind and why don't you bleed! / I fear no one, why you turn back! / I may not stop"). However, they also recognize the pain and suffering that this attitude can cause ("My freedom can't contain but tell me / The pain I liberate / Riff hostility to anyone / Has made us so much hate").

Overall, the song is a reflection of the darker side of human nature, where people can become consumed by their fears and desire for power and control. It also touches on the idea that aggression and hostility only leads to more pain and suffering.

I loved the drumming on this song, and this album in general, so I bought the album with my moms card when I was 12 on ITunes, I didn’t tell her. No one in my family listens to gospel music, so when she saw “Lamb of God, New American Gospel” she thought, someone hacked into our account! She changed the passwords, reset her credit card, the lot... she never actually listened to the music and to this day has no idea it was really me buying a metal album. She still holds a grudge for iTunes being “unreliable”.

This song got me into metal.
It’s still one of my favorite metal songs.
I love the intro.
And I don’t get people talking about the snare. I think it’s just right.
