Blood Of The Scribe
Lamb of God Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All of this comes crashing down
Cornerstone's gone
Sleepless
Hopeless
No end in sight

Ink well has run dry, fill it with blood of the scribe
Rest comes easy to the guiltless
The vampire laments as he prays for the sun
Doom, despair, tragedy are the tools of the trade

Cut to the bone
Rob the grave
Unearth the stone
Lay to waste
Defile the tome
Rip the page
Strip mine the vein
Lay to waste
Frayed at the edge
Flat lined
The anvil cracks The hammer
Relentlessly comes down
A new pariah is born

Cut to the bone
Rob the grave
Unearth the stone
Lay to waste
Defile the tome
Rip the page
Strip mine the vein
Lay to waste

Chastisement lays you down to sleep, tucks you in with bloody kisses
Gifts of nightmares bittersweet

Type A negative shuts me down
Catch phrase will be the death of me
Is this not what you came to see?
What, are you not entertained?

Climb the walls 'til nails bleed
Rip the hair, tear the seams
Break the glass
Head in hands

Bell tolls endlessly
No end in sight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lamb of God's "Blood of the Scribe" take on a dark and apocalyptic tone, with the singer describing a world that has "come crashing down" and is now "sleepless" and "hopeless" with "no end in sight". The "ink well has run dry" and the only solution is to "fill it with the blood of the scribe", an evocative metaphor that suggests a sort of macabre and desperate creativity emerging from the ruins of society. The singer goes on to describe the guilty and the innocent alike, with the "vampire" lamenting his fate and the "guiltless" able to rest more easily. The overall sense is of a world in ruins, with "doom, despair, tragedy [as] the tools of the trade".

The latter half of the song goes on to describe a more violent and destructive scene, with the singer urging the listener to "cut to the bone", "unearth the stone", and "defile the tome". The refrain "lay to waste" repeats over and over, creating a sense of destruction and chaos. The last lines are perhaps the bleakest yet, with the "bell tolling endlessly" and "no end in sight", painting a picture of a world consumed by violence and despair.

AAND GEBED:
Hemelse Vader,
Amen
