Descending
Lamb of God Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The river I'm bound to be found in
A rope chosen bound for the hang
When I'm blinded I think I see everything
Convincing myself again

this god that I worship (a faded reflection)
This demon I blame (a flickering flame)
Conspire as one, exactly the same
It's exactly the same

Descending
To never recover the pieces to all that we've lost
Recover...the pieces lost
The pieces...to all we've lost

I shudder to think of the consequence
It's blasphemy simple and true
The tragic protagonist torments
Convincing myself again

This god that I worship (a faded reflection)
This demon I blame (a flickering flame)
Conspire as one, exactly the same
It's exactly the same

Descending
To never recover the pieces to all that we've lost
Descending
To never recover the pieces to all that we've lost
Recover...the pieces lost
The pieces...to all we've lost

This god that I worship
This demon I blame
Conspire as one, exactly the same
It's exactly the same

It's exactly the same
It's exactly the same

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lamb of God's song Descending suggest a sense of hopelessness and despair as the singer is bound to a life of suffering and torment. The river that the singer is bound to represents the inevitability of their fate, suggesting that they have no control over their life. The reference to the hangman's noose symbolizes the idea that the singer's fate is already sealed, and there is no escaping their torment. The idea of being blinded but still thinking they see everything suggests that the singer is deceived by false hope, and is struggling to find their way out of their predicament.

The lyrics continue to suggest that the singer is torn between religious faith and doubt, or possibly an internal struggle between good and evil. The lines "This god that I worship (a faded reflection), This demon I blame (a flickering flame)" suggest that the character is confused and uncertain about their beliefs. They feel that there is a connection between God and the devil, or at least this is what they are experiencing. Finally, the repetition of "Descending to never recover the pieces to all that we've lost" emphasizes the idea that the singer is trapped in their fate and is unable to recover what they have lost.

Chris Adler and Randy Blythe will forever be untouched as best drummer and singer duo in metal.

If you haven't seen them live, you simply must. However, be prepared to need to see them again and again. Randy has such a savage voice for vocals, idk how he does it because my son & I both didn't get our voices back for a week after seeing them on Sept 10th 😳😂
We now have an addiction that can only be cured by MORE live Lamb of God shows 😃🤘🏻

Idk randys vox have sound torn in the past ten years. Theirs definitely better vocalists out there. He cant do the highs as good as he used too either and no pig squeals from him anymore.
