Ghost Walking
Lamb of God Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you remember
When word was bond
A fleeting promise on the light of the dawn
Barren December
Under a falling sky
The end of days and a reason to die

Obliteration never looked so divine
Holding your breath for the moment in time

You lived through hell
Now you're trying to die
The skin is healed
But you're bleeding inside
Shots fired just to numb the pain
There's no one left to save

Night blind on a shining path
Ghost walking in the aftermath
Hypnotized sixty cycle hum
The broken cadence of a distant drum
Twenty-one to one I'm liking the odds
A blood junkie with a lightning rod
A dirty rig and a heavenly nod
And still you wind up nowhere

Obliteration never looked so divine
Holding you're breath for the moment in time

You lived through hell
Now you're trying to die
The skin is healed
But you're bleeding inside
Shots fired just to numb the pain
There's no one left to save

There's no one left to save
There's no one left to save

You chase the dragon but it followed you home
You lost through fever dreams and broken hope

Decimation never looked so divine
Promising yourself for the very last time

You lived through hell
Now you're trying to die
The skin is healed
But you're bleeding inside
Shots fired just to numb the pain
There's no one left to save

There's no one left to save
There's no one left
A fever dream,
There's no one left to save

Shots forever end the pain
There's no one left to save.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lamb of God's song "Ghost Walking" explore the aftermath of a catastrophic event, possibly a natural disaster or a war, that has left the world in ruins. The opening lines refer to a time when people made promises to one another with sincerity, but that time is now long gone. It's now December, and the sky is falling, while people are experiencing the end of days and a reason to die. The idea of obliteration looking divine is a dark irony. The next verse talks about someone who has lived through hell and wants to die, even though their physical wounds have healed. They are numb to the pain and feel there's no one left to save them.

The chorus talks about being "night blind on a shining path," which suggests being lost or confused amidst all the destruction. The phrase "ghost walking in the aftermath" is metaphorical, implying that the person is physically alive, but emotionally dead. The "hypnotized sixty cycle hum" represents a lack of creativity, individuality, or control over one's life. The odds of survival are low, but the person still hangs on to the false hope of finding something or someone to save them. The second half of the chorus echoes the idea that there's no one left to rescue them.

The bridge is about chasing something that will ultimately lead to one's demise. In this case, the dragon represents addiction or something that's impossible to overcome. The person has lost their dreams, hopes and has given up on themselves. The final lines of the song emphasize the feeling of hopelessness as shots forever end the pain, there's no one left to save the victim.

People are always hating that the younger generation is into bands like Lamb of God, but this is solid material for a new generation of metalheads to get into. If they can dig this instead of the other shit being shared among kids these days (not going to name drop artists) we should be thankful nonetheless.

Andrew

God fuck im old and the shit the zoomers are listening to is trash to think people used to scoff at classics like lamb of god lol

Unix

better than hiphop garbage.

Phobos

Only one problem with that is lamb of gods been around for actually sometime they just went under a different name pre-2000s resurrection nine now I agree that’s it’s a shame people are shunned for the music they like whether it’s metal pop country edm doesn’t matter u like what u like and no one should be able to say anything but I thought I might point out tho that lamb of god is not considered a new band nor a newer band but is actually a couple decades old and I personally have been listening to them since I was twelve or so

Ghostnotes

Honestly even this is considered "old man's metal" now. Preceding generations will always have an air of elitism and rejectivism towards new things that come out that they aren't used to or don't quite understand. I personally embrace both the old and the new, and love the new shit that's coming out now just as much as the older shit.

Sam Lewis

I'm lamb of god and I listen to 12

I actually like Resolution. Most L.O.G fans say it is weak, but there are some great songs in it like King Me, Desolation, Ghost Walking, Insurrection, etc.

Alex Smalls

Literally every song in this album is fire

Mike Mossa

Everything is weak compared to the first 3 Log album. Old or sold out

Sven Markum

It's fuckin legendary for the drum solo into Desolation alone.
