Resurrection
Lamb of God Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lay waste, torn asunder
Weak and lost in the past
Obfuscates the self mind
Ripped it away

Cobwebs and motes
In the eye of the sun god
I think not
Serpent get thee behind me

Eradicated your somnambulant enigma
This field has lain fallow
Won't erode, won't soak up the sediment
From your poisoned mind

No, I won't soak up your misery
Won't soak up your weakness
Won't soak up your banality
Taste vanadium
Wide awake realizing what you've done

Taste the frost
You chose your own death
You know that you choose well

I hate myself but not as much as I hate you
Tear yourself down

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Resurrection" by Lamb of God describe the aftermath of laying waste to something that had once been holding the singer back. It may be a representation of a toxic relationship, addiction, or even an inner demon that had held the singer captive with its hold. The singer has found a new strength that he had not thought possible and is therefore no longer willing to put up with the despair and misery brought on by this force. They liken the force to cobwebs and motes in the eye of the sun god, imagery meant to denote its insignificance compared to the singer's newfound power.

The singer has erased the force from his life and warns that he won't accept or internalize any remnants of it or the bitter feelings it had brought on. The singer has tasted a new metal, a new strength in himself and is more active in his resolve. They also seem to express disappointment in themselves for ever having let this force get a hold on them but also a stronger hatred for it as it was the thing that was holding them back from their true potential. The song ends with a call to remove this force from their life completely and completely tearing it down to move forward.

I was born in a cemetery
And learned to walk on skulls and bones
Was taught to speak by the living dead
And raised beneath a funeral moon

Horror stories, talking heads
Segregate the living dead
The living dead

I'm a shadow on your brightest dreams
A horse for Baron Samedi
Pure voodoo, economic hell
I've come to pick your carcass clean

Horror stories, talking heads
Segregate the living dead, oh
Horror stories, talking heads
Shilling for the thoroughbreds
Racial strife and rising debts
Segregate the living dead

I'm the resurrection man
A jackal in a three-piece suit
Death and taxes for the damned
Brought to heel beneath my boot
So chase that carrot straight to hell
The status that you're dying for
And decorate your coffin well
The system is a graveyard

I'm Loki in the counting room
Trickle-down narcotic doom
Superfunds for cancer towns
The bottom line is six feet down

In barren ground
Six feet down

Horror stories, talking heads
The living dead
I'm gonna bury you
Barren ground

@tombstonerebellion8089

They are so heavy it shouldn't be legal .
After Bon Scott died 43 years ago I thought I'd never hear a vocalist who inspired me like that
LOG sounds like giants stomping the shit out of a world turned mad
Randy's vocals set an unachievable bar so fucking high it cannot ever be reached by another
He is the embodiment of what Metal stands for ... none before
None after ..
He alone
His lyrics and pronunciation are magnetic and harrowing
Genius and madness wrapped up into a phenomenal legend that only gets better with each blegh he belches from his guts .

@metamorphichoe

Pointed and laughed at
Broken and beaten
This life's far beyond my control
Can you hear the whispers of death
In the end there will be no one left
Sorrow rises
Our collective soul bleeding
Recording our demise
Chelsea grins
Columbian neck ties
Which one sounds appealing to you
We are the beast in the night
Bringing you nightmares to terrify
I only dream of gouging out your eyes
And playing with the dimensions inside
Searching for the pain
Dreaming of Christ
Would he die in this modern life
Or would he have to commit murder suicide to get his message across
The only thing that speaks is pain
That's why they remember my name
I am the enemy of the modern day Saints
666
I am the lamb of the beast
The fallen king
For eternity I scream

I was born on the cemetery
Under the sign of the moon
Raised from my grave by the dead
I was made a mercenary
In the legions of hell
Now I'm king of pain, I'm insane

I was born in a cemetery
And learned to walk on skulls and bones
Was taught to speak by the living dead
And raised beneath a funereal moon

We all just gonna casually act like this isn't one of the best Lamb of God songs ever? These lyrics are insane.

@L0rdskullz

This song is phenomenal, the meaning behind the lyrics just makes it that much more hardcore. If you don't know what I'm talking about he talks about his inspiration for this song somewhere. It's about "trickle Economics" and how they ruin an entire group of people.

@sethnoeltner5666

This is my new favorite. Excellent lyrics and musically is perfect

@acidsurfers

No one is acting like that

@arizonabayla496

@LONE WOLF 1970 The lyrics are concise and correct , you just don't like it because you simp for a class of parasites called capitalists.

@metalmamasue3680

They often write lyrics speaking generally about the absolute bullshit government(s) are responsible for, and crimes against their own citizens and world events in general. Historically speaking (worldwide), governments have been responsible for more deaths than those who've died in all wars combined.
Let that sink in.
Randy's very, very smart and well read.
Not to seem like I'm bragging, but I was lucky to be born with good genetics, my grandfather graduated valedictorian of his HS class in 1927, went to Bucknell, a "little Ivy" league University on a full academic scholarship in 1927, but had to drop out in 1929 due to the Depression so he could help his siblings on the family farm.
I'm lucky to have inherited some of his smarts and I still have to look some things up & some words Randy uses. I've read thousands of books myself. 😄 Kudos to LoG for sounding so excellent all these years. 🤘🏼
BTW, sources say they're going to do one more album after Omens and then retire.
So if you haven't seen them yet, DO IT Get your tickets and go while you still can.
I PROMISE you will be glad you did. They're amazing live.
