Land of Talk's debut EP, Applause Cheer Boo Hiss, was released in April 2006, and featured Chris McCarron on bass and Bucky Wheaton on drums. Wheaton left the band in May 2007 and was replaced by Eric Thibodeau. Thibodeau left in early 2008, and was replaced by Andrew Barr (of The Slip). McCarron left to play guitar for The Dears and was replaced by Joe Yarmush.
The band released their full-length debut, Some Are Lakes, on Saddle Creek Records in September 2008. They opened for Broken Social Scene on their fall 2008 tour.
On October 27th, 2009 the band released Fun and Laughter EP under Saddle Creek Records. This album was released prior to their short west coast tour that began in San Diego on October 27th and ended in Vancouver, B.C. on November 7th the same year. This showcased four songs.
The band's fourth album, Cloak and Cipher, debuted August 24, 2010 on Saddle Creek Records. After touring for the album for a while, the band was completely shrouded in mystery, no trace of them could be found. Their official website was replaced but they were/are still listed on the official website of the label. It was only in 2013, when the band manager confirmed a hiatus.
On April 25, 2015, Powell played her first show since 2011 at the Roots North Music Festival in Orillia, Ontario. On December 5, the band social media pages were updated for the first time in four years.

Got any paper
chasses et damer
Give you ladies exercise
its stolen light
no one betrayed you
but sleeping without a key
only fox can wake your world
Does this not take
If I could old school
leave it on the line
Give you ladies exercise
its stolen light
no one betrayed you
but sleeping without a key
only fox can wake your world
So sad this wont kill you
Tonight I sleep in the car
I release you
I'm a girl
when it's cold out I'm a Dog
So sad this wont kill you
Tonight I sleep in the car
I release you
I'm a girl
when it's cold out I'm a Dog
Does this not take
Got any paper
chasses et damer
Give you ladies exercise
its stolen light
ok, I betrayed you
but sleeping without a key
only fox can wake your world
So sad this wont kill you
Tonight I sleep in the car
I release you
I'm a girl
when it's cold out I'm a Dog
So sad, so sad
Tonight I sleep in the car
I release you
I'm a girl
when it's cold out I'm a Dog
I release you
I'm a girl
when it's cold out I'm a Dog
I release you
I'm a girl
when it's cold out I'm a Dog
The lyrics to "Give Me Back My Heart Attack" by Land of Talk are cryptic and leave room for interpretation. The song seems to be about a relationship that has ended, and the singer is trying to come to terms with it. The first verse is puzzling and difficult to unpack. The line, "Does this not take," is unclear, but it could mean that something is not happening as it should be or not going according to plan. "Got any paper" could relate to writing a letter or expressing oneself in some way. "Chasses et damer" is a French phrase that translates to "hunting and fishing," which could symbolize the search for something elusive or a sense of adventure. "Give you ladies exercise" is an enigmatic line that may refer to the idea of challenging oneself or pushing oneself to be better. "It's stolen light" suggests that something precious has been taken away or lost. "No one betrayed you, but sleeping without a key / only fox can wake your world" could refer to feeling vulnerable and exposed, and the sense that only something unexpected or charming can awaken one's spirit.
The second verse mirrors the first and suggests that the singer is longing for a simpler time or an old way of doing things. "Leave it on the line" could be a reference to gambling or taking risks. "If I could old school" is ambiguous, but perhaps means going back to a time when things were less complicated. "Ok, I betrayed you, but sleeping without a key / only fox can wake your world" is a repetition of the earlier stanza but with a twist. The singer admits to betraying someone, and the reference to a key suggests that the singer has locked something away or is hiding something. The "fox" that can awaken the world could represent something wild or unpredictable that can shake things up.
In the chorus, the lyrics suggest that the singer is experiencing sadness but also a sense of relief. "So sad this won't kill you" suggests that the pain won't be fatal, and the line "Tonight I sleep in the car / I release you" implies that the singer is letting go of something or someone. "When it's cold out, I'm a dog" may be a metaphor for feeling vulnerable or isolated; a dog is susceptible to the whims of the weather and can be a lonely creature.
