Be Set Free
Langhorne Slim Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Or whether I'm wrong,
Time will go by, life it will go on
When the light is on my side
Love reveals itself to me
Then I can, yes I can,
I can be set free
Every mouth can form a smile,
So let yourself go, ease your mind for a while
When you're tired, and you're torn
And humankind seems filled with misery
Then you can, yes you can
You can be set free
I'm not an ordinary man
I don't pretend to be
Want to be extraordinary man,
I'd like to know peace
When the lights go out, I'm not lonely
It's the only thing that matters to me
Yes I can, yes we can
We can be set free
We can know peace
We can be set free
The lyrics of Langhorne Slim's song "Be Set Free" are an uplifting and encouraging message to those feeling burdened by the weight of life's struggles. The first verse suggests that regardless of whether one's decisions are right or wrong, time will continue on, and life will move forward. However, when the light is on one's side, love reveals itself, and one can be set free. This can be interpreted as a hopeful message of self-acceptance and forgiveness, as one can be set free from the weight of regret and doubt when they approach life with love.
The second verse continues this hopeful message by urging the listener to let themselves go and ease their mind, even in the midst of a world filled with misery. The lyrics encourage the listener to recognize their strength in the face of adversity and remind them that they have the power to be set free. The final verse of the song, sung in the first person, expresses the desire to be an extraordinary man and know peace. It suggests that true peace comes from acceptance of oneself, as the lights going out bring no sense of loneliness.
