She's Gone
Langhorne Slim Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm gonna be gone before long
Now you can wave your hand goodbye
You can dry the tears from your eyes
And I said,
She's gone, I'm stayin'
I'm nobody
She's gone, I'm stayin'
I'm nobody
She's gone, I'm stayin'
I'm unhappy half the time I'm told
And I said, 'well if that's so...
I'll put on a happy face on Halloween,
scare the shit outta the ghosts'
Well there's just so many people
with ?unwanted filthy demands?
After you left I called my friends up alone
but at least I'm not your man
Well honey I said,
She's gone, I'm stayin'
I'm nobody
She's gone, I'm stayin'
She's gone, I'm stayin'
I'm nobody
She's gone, I'm stayin'
Whether I'm right or I am wrong
I'm gonna be gone before long
Ah Honey it ain't no crime to laugh, no time to cry
Why don't we just wave and say goodbye
And I said,
She's gone, I'm stayin'
I'm nobody
She's gone, I'm stayin'
She's gone, I'm stayin'
I'm nobody
She's gone, I'm stayin'
Don't take it all
She'll take it all
The lyrics to Langhorne Slim's song "She's Gone" express a sense of acceptance and defiance in the face of a breakup. The singer acknowledges that he may have been wrong or not done things the right way, but regardless, he knows that he will be gone soon. The second verse presents a contrast between the singer's unhappiness and his decision to put on a happy face for Halloween, which is a symbol of how we often try to conceal our pain from others. The song also touches on the idea of unwanted attention, with the lyric "unwanted filthy demands" suggesting that the singer feels suffocated or overwhelmed by someone who is no longer in his life. Despite this, he still maintains a sense of pride in being his own person and not being "your man." The final verse brings the song to a close, with the singer insisting that there's no need to cry, and that it's time to say goodbye on their own terms.
One possible interpretation of "She's Gone" is that it's a breakup song that's written from the perspective of someone who feels like they're being left behind. The singer seems to be trying to convince themselves that they're okay without their former partner, even though they may not actually be feeling that way. The song is also notable for its upbeat tempo and catchy melody, which adds an air of defiance to its themes of heartbreak.
