Mood Indigo
Lannie Garrett Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You ain't never been blue,
Till you've had that mood indigo.
That feelin' goes stealin' down to my shoes
While I just sit here and sigh, "Go 'long blues".
I always get that mood indigo,
Since my baby said goodbye.
I'm so lonely I could cry.
'Cause there's nobody who cares about me,
I'm just a poor fool that's bluer than blue can be.
When I get that mood indigo,
I could lay me down and die.
You ain't never been blue; no, no, no,
You ain't never been blue,
Till you've had that mood indigo.
That feelin' goes stealin' down to my shoes
While I just sit here and sigh, "Go 'long blues".
In Lannie Garrett's version of "Mood Indigo," the lyrics poetically capture the feeling of despair, heartbreak, and utter loneliness that results from a lost love. The singer of the song, seemingly addressing someone who has never been in the same kind of distress that they have, laments that feeling "blue" is not sufficient to describe the level of sadness they have been experiencing since their lover left them. The use of the word "indigo" to describe this type of blue illustrates a specific, vivid color that encapsulates the deep level of despair that the singer is feeling.
The song's repetition of the phrase "You ain't never been blue" underscores this sense of isolation and loneliness. By insisting that the listener has never felt what the singer is feeling, it further emphasizes that there is no one around who can truly empathize with their experience. The final verse of the song speaks to the extremity of the singer's despair. They are so heartbroken that they feel like they could "lay me down and die" when they have that "mood indigo." Overall, the song is a poignant and powerful portrayal of heartbreak and feelings of loneliness that can feel inescapable after losing someone we love.

Lyrics
Chorus:
If you wanted the clouds.
I would climb up a mountain.
If you want a big house,
It’d come with a fountain.
And maybe a hot tub.
The size of an ocean.
If you wanted real love.
I’d give my emotions all to you.
Verse 1:
Do you know what you’re doing to me?
Burning up for you I swear it’s like a hundred degrees.
Put my trust in you, and you don’t even know that means.
You’ve been focused on you, you always chasing your dreams.
Yea.
I’ll support wherever you wanna go.
I can’t take you there, but I could help with paving the road.
Ain’t gotta do what your told.
Just stick to breaking the mold.
In the end, I just hope that you know that...
Chorus:
If you wanted the clouds.
I would climb up a mountain.
If you want a big house,
It’d come with a fountain.
And maybe a hot tub.
The size of an ocean.
If you wanted real love.
I’d give my emotions all to you.
Verse 2:
All to you.
I wanna show that I’ll ball for you.
It’s not the time I should fall for you.
I know that you gotta do what you gotta do.
If you need the assistance, I’ll be right there.
When you glow up, then they might stare.
Girl it’s no rush, yea they broke us.
Throwing no punch and we fight fair.
One step back, but I’m never retreating.
Cuz I need my space, energy is depleted.
You can have my word, always keeping the secrets.
I’ll be everything that you ever needed.
Bridge:
If you wanted a break.
I hope that you get one.
If you wanna wait,
I hope that you press on.
If everyone’s fake
then I’ll be be the real one.
I know you want real love.
