LANY is a three piece alternative band from Los Angeles, California. LANY formed in March 2014 when Paul Klein, who had a small solo career, flew to Nashville to meet up with Jake Goss and Les Priest. Previously, Goss and Priest had a separate project by the name of WRLDS, but this was discontinued after the formation of LANY. The following month they uploaded two songs, 'Hot Lights' and 'Walk Away', to SoundCloud incognito in order to differentiate between their old and new projects. Their debut EP, 'Acronymns' followed later that year, with song 'ILYSB' generating significant traffic online. Singles 'Made In Hollywood' and 'Bad, Bad, Bad' soon followed, along with the reveal of their identities.

In the car, at the bar, by the kitchen sink
You used to say you want me, now we just say sorry
You and I always fight 'bout the same old thing
I should've probably already left
But I never listen to my head
Keys are in my hand, got one foot out the door
Every time I try, every time I try to leave
My heart won't let me
Not okay, God, I hate-hate the place we're in
But I forget for a sec when I kiss your lips
I should've probably already left
But I never listen to my head
Say I'm gonna go, can't take it anymore
Keys are in my hand, got one foot out the door
Every time I try, every time I try to leave
My heart won't let me
Be the one to quit, I know it's gonna hurt
Lyin' to myself will only make it worse
Every time I try, every time I try to leave
My heart won't let me
(Ooh, ooh-ooh)
My heart won't let me
(Ooh, ooh-ooh)
You used to say you want me, now we just say sorry
Why can't I just walk away?
Say I'm gonna go, can't take it anymore
Keys are in my hand, got one foot out the door
Every time I try, every time I try to leave
My heart won't let me
Be the one to quit, I know it's gonna hurt
Lyin' to myself will only make it worse
Every time I try, every time I try to leave
My heart won't let me
(Ooh, ooh-ooh)
My heart won't let me
(Ooh, ooh-ooh)
My heart won't let me
The lyrics of Lany's "Heart Won't Let Me In" reveal the complicated feelings that arise within a tumultuous relationship. The song highlights the cycle of constantly fighting and forgiving, feeling simultaneously trapped and unable to leave. The opening verse of the song sets the stage for the ongoing conflict that the singer and their partner face as they fight "about the same old thing" everywhere - in the car, at the bar, and by the kitchen sink. Despite the frustration of constantly arguing, the singer cannot bring themselves to leave the relationship because their heart won't let them.
The chorus of the song repeats the central theme of the singer's internal conflict, as they try to leave but encounter resistance from their heart. The singer knows that leaving would be the smartest decision, but they cannot bring themselves to do it because the idea of quitting a relationship they have invested so much in hurts too much. The final verse repeats the same question that the singer has been struggling with all along: "Why can't I just walk away?"
Overall, Lany's "Heart Won't Let Me In" is a deeply personal and honest portrayal of the internal struggle that arises when facing the end of a toxic relationship. The lyrics acknowledge the difficulty of letting go of someone you love, even if the relationship itself is causing pain.

"I should've probably already left, but I never listen to my head." At some point, we have that one person that we just can't let go even if it's affecting our mental health so bad because we love them and we can't afford to lose them.
