A native of Danville, Kentucky[1], Harris started playing the piano by age 9. His first formal vocal training came when he attended college at Western Kentucky University, from which he graduated in 1969. He later became a part of the popular Gospel touring group "The Spurlows." He gained fame with both his solo work, and his work as part of the Gaither Vocal Band, headed by Gospel musician and recording executive Bill Gaither.
His many live and televised appearances include Live with Regis and Kathie Lee, The 700 Club, several Billy Graham crusades, the Trinity Broadcasting Network, numerous Gaither Homecoming shows, and his own Christmas special. In his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, Harris has made many appearances on the WHAS Crusade for Children, a long-running local telethon benefitting children's charities.
Of his many chart-topping songs, perhaps his best-known are his duets with Sandi Patty called, "More than Wonderful" and "I've Just Seen Jesus." His song, "Mighty Spirit" was featured in a 1993 television campaign for the Points of Light Foundation, headed by President George H. W. Bush; he performed the song for Bush and his wife Barbara at the White House.
Harris has received an honorary doctorate of music from Campbellsville University in central Kentucky. He was inducted into the Western Kentucky University Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 1993.
Harris, his wife Cynthia, and children Lonnie and Teresa have lived in Louisville for more than three decades. Despite his schedule, Harris serves as a deacon in his home church, and previously served as its treasurer. Harris is well-known within the Gospel music industry for his reluctance to schedule performances that take him away from his family for any length of time.

Amen
Larnelle Harris Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Amen, amen, amen
Sing it over one time children
Listen to my story
It's a story about my Jesus
Amen
See the little baby
Born Christmas morning
Amen
See Him at the seashore
Talking to the fishermen
And He's making them disciples
Amen, amen
Riding through Jerusalem
Waving palm branches
In pomp and splendor
See Him in the garden
Prayin to His Father
In deepest sorrow, sorrow
Led before Pilate
Then they crucified Him
But He rose on Easter
Amen, amen, amen
Hallelujah!
Yes, He died to save you and me
And He lives forever and ever
Amen
Glory hallelujah!
He died to save you and me
And He lives forever
Amen, amen, amen
The song "Amen" by Larnelle Harris is a song that celebrates the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The chorus, which repeats throughout the song, is a powerful expression of affirmation and agreement with the message of the song. The lyrics are divided into six verses, each one telling a different part of the story of Jesus.
The first verse talks about the birth of Jesus, and how he was laid in a manger on Christmas morning. The second verse talks about Jesus speaking to fishermen at the seashore and making them disciples. The third verse describes Jesus entering Jerusalem and the people waving palm branches in his honor. The fourth verse speaks of Jesus' prayer in the garden of Gethsemane, when he prayed to his Father in deep sorrow. The fifth verse tells of Jesus' trial before Pilate and his crucifixion. Finally, the sixth verse rejoices in Jesus' resurrection on Easter Sunday.
The song is a powerful declaration of faith, and it celebrates the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It reminds us of the sacrifice that Jesus made to save us from sin, and it encourages us to rejoice in the victory of his resurrection. The song's simple melody and powerful lyrics make it a powerful expression of worship and praise.
