1. Larry Clinton (August 17, 1909 – May 2, 1985) was a trumpeter who became a prominent American bandleader. Clinton was born in Brooklyn, New York. His first stint as a bandleader was from 1937 to 1941, but he worked as a flight instructor during World War II, resuming his musical career and enjoying further success as a bandleader from 1948 to 1950. His practice of rearranging the works of famous composers like Debussy and Tchaikovsky and adding lyrics was known as "swinging the classics". His version of Debussy’s "Reverie", with vocalist Bea Wain, was particularly popular. Clinton also provided conventional arrangements for performers like the Dorsey brothers, Glen Gray, Louis Armstrong, and Bunny Berigan. He died in Tucson, Arizona.
2. Larry Clinton was an obscure soul singer from Philadelphia whose song "She's Wanted (In Three States)" became a monster on the British northern soul circuit. Original copies now sell for thousands of dollars.

Heart and soul, the way a fool would do, madly
Because you held me tight
And stole a kiss in the night
Heart and soul, I begged to be adored
Lost control, and tumbled overboard, gladly
That magic night we kissed
Oh but your lips were thrilling, much too thrilling
Never before were mine so strangely willing
But now I see, what one embrace can do
Look at me, it's got me loving you madly
That little kiss you stole
Held all my heart and soul
Oh but your lips were thrilling, much too thrilling
Never before were mine so strangely willing
But now I see, what one embrace can do
Look at me, it's got me loving you madly
That little kiss you stole
Held all my heart and soul
Ooh, heart and soul
The lyrics of Larry Clinton's song Heart and Soul describe the intense feeling of falling in love with someone. The singer confesses that they fell in love with their partner's heart and soul, just like a fool would do. Despite his initial hesitation, he gave in to his feelings because his partner held him tight and stole a kiss in the night. The singer then describes how he begged to be adored by his lover and lost control, tumbling overboard gladly. He recalls the magical moment when they kissed in the moon mist, and how his partner's lips were thrilling, a feeling he never experienced before.

Bea Wain: You're like me.
A standard, straightforward singer.
Anita O'Day, during your time, was singing and swinging.
Working that Jazz..
And I would have been SO jealous of her, as she was ridiculously talented.
I could never have compared.
I never heard of you, and I'm sorry.
You seem like a real, honest, plain (and beloved), basic singer.
Singers like you were AWESOME.
I hope you enjoyed a lot of love re: your singing during your life.
You deserve it.
