WORKING MAN
Larry Fleet Lyrics

4:00 a.m, Lord, don′t it come way too soon?
You'd think by now, it′d be something you'd be used to
So put on your coffee and turn on the news
It's gonna be hot as hell, but at least the skies are blue
You′re clocking in more hours, but you do what ya gotta do

I know you′re tired, I know you're hurting
I know you′re broke down to the bone
But your bills are paid
And there's smiling faces waiting on you at home
And it ain′t always easy, it ain't ever like you planned
Oh, but man, ain′t it working, working man?

Now you're going home while the sun's going down
You′re still miles away, but you can already hear the sound
Of a little voice, saying, "Daddy come out and play"
So you steal a couple more minutes from a damn good day
You′re clocking in, wore out, wouldn't want it any other way

I know you′re tired, I know you're hurting
I know you′re broke down to the bone
But your bills are paid
And there's smiling faces waiting on you at home
And it ain′t always easy, it ain't ever like you planned
Oh, but man, ain't it working, working man?

It′s the sweat and blood and bruises
Calloused hands, hard as can be
There′s bread on the table
There's presents under the tree

I know you′re tired, I know you're hurting
I know you′re broke down to the bone
But your bills are paid
And there's smiling faces waiting on you at home
And it ain′t always easy, it ain't ever like you planned
Oh, but man, ain't it working, working man?

It ain′t always easy, it ain′t ever like you planned
Oh, but man, ain't it working, working man?

Overall Meaning

Larry Fleet's song "Working Man" is a heartfelt tribute to blue-collar workers who put in long hours and hard work to support their families. The song starts with an opening verse that describes the hardworking man's daily routine. It's 4 a.m., and he's up early to face another long day. Despite the early wake-up and long hours, he's grateful to have a job and put food on the table for his family. The chorus repeats the theme of the song, emphasizing the hard work and sacrifices the working man makes every day.

The second verse describes the satisfying feeling the working man gets when he hears his child's voice asking him to play. It's a reminder that all his hard work is worth it when he sees the smiling faces of his loved ones waiting for him at home. The chorus repeats, emphasizing that it's not easy, but it's worth it.

The song's message is clear: working hard may not always be easy, but it's rewarding to support your family and provide for them. The lyrics are relatable, and the melody creates an emotional connection with the listener. It celebrates the unsung heroes that work tirelessly to make the world go round.

As a struggling father I needed this song. I work from the time I wake up to when I lay down. 4:30 I start my main job in construction. I’m off at 4 and go go work on side jobs. When I get home I make wooden crafts to sell. I have 3 kids and an amazing wife. I’m physically, mentally, and emotionally drained, but to see my family’s stomach full and a roof over there head is what keeps me going. Y’all plz pray for me.

@haggardfan7949

Thats man shit bro. Proud of you one day soon your big break will come. Sounds like your ritch to me. Atleast your wife and kids are and that alone should keep your head high. 💪

@calebowens3006

They’ll appreciate that more than you’ll know one day, trust me

@teamghost5619

Don’t work for riches. Work for wealth. Sounds to me like you’re living the dream brother. Us working class boys, farmers, country folk, and god fearing Americans are all behind you. Don’t let the trials of life let you forget that.
