Throw down my guns, I'm giving up the fight to prove them right
Gotta get away from myself, if I'm gonna make it out alive
Standing on the sidelines spitting my 2 cents
Celebrating arrogance while hiding in a crowd of cynics
Passive passion proves my life is passing me by
I'll never make it out alive
This meaning is fleeting, just when we really need it
Throw my hands up, I've had enough
I've been the first, I've seen the top of feeling down and out
I gotta get away from myself, and I'll never make it out alive
I'll be there if you feel like you're falling
I know we're going all the way, I know we're searching for the answers
And it's not enough when you're losing heart
Instead of backing out just put in your part
Searching for where we are going
The lyrics of Last Tuesday's song Armchair Sanctuary express the feeling of defeat and a desire to escape from oneself. The first lines of the song, "Throw my hands up I'm backing out, Throw down my guns, I'm giving up the fight to prove them right" suggest that the singer is giving up on trying to prove something to someone else. It could be a reference to trying to prove oneself to society or to loved ones. The line "Gotta get away from myself, if I'm gonna make it out alive" reveals that the singer is struggling with his or her own demons and needs to distance himself or herself to survive.
The second verse, "Standing on the sidelines spitting my 2 cents, Celebrating arrogance while hiding in a crowd of cynics, Passive passion proves my life is passing me by, I'll never make it out alive" suggests that the singer is passive and not fully living his or her life. The lyrical tone suggests an acknowledgment of one's own faults but also a sense of hopelessness or futility in changing them. The chorus emphasizes the need for escape and suggests a lack of direction or purpose, "This meaning is fleeting, just when we really need it, A building and nothing more, these empty walls are bound to fall."
Overall, the song seems to express a desire for change and escape from one's own self-defeating thoughts and behaviors. It's a relatable theme that many can connect with and find solace in.
