Criminal
Last Week Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Nothing is clear and I feel like I'm set up to lose
Is there direction or am I just easily confused
People may say that there's a bright road that I'm going down
But the beaten path is the only road that I have found
And the voices come to me at night

It's got gotta got to be criminal
It's got gotta got to be got to be
It's got gotta got to be criminal
To hate the life that you have come to know.
It's got gotta got to be criminal
It's got gotta got to be got to be

I'm not taking things for granted I'm taking a stance
Things could end tomorrow so I can't pass up this last chance
Focus a picture that's so blurred I can't make out a face
I'll never lose sight of all the things that I can't replace
Voices come to me at night

It's got gotta got to be criminal
It's got gotta got to be got to be
It's got gotta got to be criminal
To hate the life that you have come to know
It's got gotta got to be criminal
It's got gotta got to be got to be

Sometimes I beat myself to death with these stupid thoughts
Or will I be six feet deep to pay the cost
And now I feel like I can bare the weight and make things right
And now I can beat myself in my fight.

It's got gotta got to be criminal,
It's got gotta got to be got to be
It's got gotta got to be criminal
To hate the life that you have come to know.
It's got gotta got to be criminal
It's got gotta got to be got to be
Iit's got gotta got to be criminal
To hate the life that you have come to know.

Criminal (2x)

It's got gotta got to be criminal
That you have come to know

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Criminal" by Last Week reflect feelings of confusion, dissatisfaction, and desperation. The singer is uncertain about their path in life and feels like they are set up to lose. While others may see a bright road ahead, the singer can only see the beaten path they have already traveled. Yeah they do shit like that. Its maddeningly stupid and backwards.

Happend to to me when I was 19 years old. They used a paid confidential informant who was an old acquaintance of mine to set me up. Had me get 40 dollars worth of rock for him, and they paid double for it so I would make 40 dollars extra from the deal (I was young, broke, and dumb, plus I knew this guy for years. Had no idea he was an informant).

It had been an entire year with them just sitting on it. They had filmed the entire exchange, unbeknownst to me, of course.

Christmas eve, they pull me over for a supposed traffic issue, and as they're running my name in the computer the officer says, "Oh, you got a felony warrent out for distribution, schedule two."

So I spent Christmas plus another couple weeks in jail until they cut me loose. They wanted too much money to bond out, a ridiculous amount, $60000 IIRC.

I would have had to come up with 10% of that to bond out, I think. So $6000, which I certainly didn't have. So, I just sat in jail until they let me leave. I think it was 2 or 3 weeks at the most. Really shitty parish jail too, so that makes the time go by so much slower.

All for 40 dollars..

For fucks sake, how many decades have people been trying to scare parents into thinking evil people are putting shit in kids Halloween candy? When I was a kid they told us to check all of our candy for needles and razor blades... Drugs in candy is even dumber for all the reasons stated in the video.

I know right? Like give me my free sample pretty please.

Agreed. especially in my country, we dont even celebrate halloween and you are telling me that this one day of the year, kids are given free drugs? Since when are they so cheap that they can be given away for free and how are u even gonna earn money from little timmie?

It's extremely rare, but it does happen. In 1959, a dentist named William Shyne distributed 450 laxative-laced candies to kids, 30 of them became ill. In 1964, a woman (& mother) named Helen Pfeil handed out bags of treats containing arsenic-laced ant traps, metal mesh scrubbing pads and dog biscuits; she told police it wasn't "malicious," she was just "tired of the Halloween tradition." In 2000, a man named James J. Smith was charged with felony alteration for putting needles into chocolate bars he handed out on Halloween. But that doesn't mean we should all panic; rather, it's something parents should simply be aware of. And there are programs - I remember as a kid in FL in the 1980s, we went trick-or-treating at the local mall where the stores were handing out candy, as part of a program for parents to be assured that their kid's candy was safe. As an added bonus, we got to trick-or-treat in A/C comfort, instead of sweating going from door to door in neighborhoods. A danger with a much higher risk is kids getting struck by vehicles while out trick-or-treating, and you'd think that the news (and police!) would focus more on that, but I guess it's not as sensational as tampered candy? But drugs now...man, that shit is expensive, unless it's some rich asshole with money to burn & psychosis, ain't nobody wasting the money. Razor blades and needles are inexpensive enough that it's more plausible.

Pat Collins is an absolute legend in the DMV, he was so out of pocket that they make his segments longer on purpose. He also did a little of everything. From covering politics, to doing some weather, to sports, crime, and even doing reports on local schools and their events. Go look up some of his segments, the guy is hilarious.

Peacefullness -

@G. L. You took the time to tell people irrelevant information about yourself in order to make That point?

You live somewhere and don't like someone.....

Pat Collins is the fuckin best ♥️

He's even a meme, if you've ever seen the meme of the reporter in a grape suit interviewing a kid in a banana suit, that's Pat!

Everyone I've known around here who doesn't like him has been a real big curmudgeon you don't wanna talk to anyway :)
