The boy who dreams in the stratosphere
Time is forgiving so let it go
Because you're gonna find out
When it all comes down
That we were better off when we were
Ignorance is bliss now so let it go
So we can leave today and we can drive all night
Under the atlas of starlit skies
And if we leave today we can drive all night
Forgiving daylight
Living life in our world
A beauty built with honest hands
Wide awake and dreaming on Starlight Drive
So if we leave today we can drive all night
Under the atlas of starlit skies
And if we leave today we can drive all night
Under the cover of satellites
And if we leave today we can drive all night
Under the ashes of fireflies
Forgiving daylight
The lyrics of "Starlight Drive" by Last Winter delve into the idea of nostalgia and how we tend to look back at our past with rose-colored lenses, particularly during difficult times in our lives. The initial lyrics, "Never thought life would change me, the boy who dreams in the stratosphere," suggests that the singer never imagined that their life would drastically change, but it indeed did. The line "Time is forgiving so let it go" perhaps is an indication that time has passed and the singer needs to let go of the past and embrace the present. The chorus of the song confirms this idea that ignorance is truly bliss and it was better when the singer was naive and dreaming of the future, yet the line "forgiving daylight" suggests that even though it is better to forget the past, one should not ignore it, lest they forget how far they've come.
The verse "Living life in our world, a beauty built with honest hands, wide awake and dreaming on Starlight Drive" paints a picture of a beautiful life filled with dreams and hopes, but the singer finds that reality is far from their aspirations. The line "Under the atlas of starlit skies" highlights the fantasy element of the song and portrays the idea of driving through the night, looking up at the stars, and finding peace in the seemingly infinite universe.
Overall, the song conveys a sense of acceptance towards the past, urging the listener to find comfort in the memories they've left behind while embracing the present and the future. The song's dreamy and nostalgic atmosphere perfectly captures the mood set in the lyrics.
