D… Read Full Bio ↴Laura Fygi (born August 27, 1955, in Amsterdam) is a Dutch singer.
Daughter to a Dutch father, a manager at Philips, and an Egyptian mother, a belly dancer by profession, Fygi lived with her parents in South America for the first eight years of her life.
Between 1987 and 1991, she was a member of popular Dutch girl-band, Centerfold. During performances, the trio dressed themselves in sexy lingerie. They had hits in the Netherlands and all over Europe, and were equally famous in Japan.
In 1991, the ladies of Centerfold stopped performing and Fygi (together with Rowan Moore) started a band called The Backlot. After one performance in Dutch theatre Paradiso, an album was expected, but Mercury Records had already asked Fygi to make a solo album. This first album, Introducing Laura Fygi, comprised mostly jazz numbers, and was produced by Ruud Jacobs. In the album, Fygi was accompanied by celebrated Belgian musician Toots Thielemans.

Laura Fygi Lyrics

'Round midnight, midnight
I do pretty well, till after sundown
Suppertime I'm feelin' sad
But it really gets bad
'Round midnight
Memories always start 'round midnight
Haven't got the heart to stand those memories
When my heart is still with you
And ol' midnight knows it, too
When a quarrel we had needs mending
Does it mean that our love is ending
Darlin' I need you, lately I find
You're out of my heart
And I'm out of my mind
Let our hearts take wings'
'Round midnight, midnight
Let the angels sing
For your returning
Till our love is safe and sound
And old midnight comes around
Feelin' sad
Really gets bad
Round, Round, Round Midnight
The lyrics of Laura Fygi's Autour De Minuit open with the mention of midnight, which sets the tone for the entire song. The singer mentions that midnight is the time when memories start to come back to her. She confesses that these memories make her feel sad, especially because her heart is still with her lover at midnight, but they are not together. The singer expresses her inability to stand these memories and how they affect her emotions throughout the night. She asks if a quarrel they had means that their love is ending and admits that she needs her lover back since he still has a hold on her heart despite their differences.
In the next part of the song, the singer wishes for her lover to return so that they can mend their quarrel and be in each other's arms again. She asks the angels to sing and let her lover come back to her. The song culminates with the singer feeling sad that her lover is not around, and the memories of their time together make her feel worse.
