D… Read Full Bio ↴Laura Fygi (born August 27, 1955, in Amsterdam) is a Dutch singer.
Daughter to a Dutch father, a manager at Philips, and an Egyptian mother, a belly dancer by profession, Fygi lived with her parents in South America for the first eight years of her life.
Between 1987 and 1991, she was a member of popular Dutch girl-band, Centerfold. During performances, the trio dressed themselves in sexy lingerie. They had hits in the Netherlands and all over Europe, and were equally famous in Japan.
In 1991, the ladies of Centerfold stopped performing and Fygi (together with Rowan Moore) started a band called The Backlot. After one performance in Dutch theatre Paradiso, an album was expected, but Mercury Records had already asked Fygi to make a solo album. This first album, Introducing Laura Fygi, comprised mostly jazz numbers, and was produced by Ruud Jacobs. In the album, Fygi was accompanied by celebrated Belgian musician Toots Thielemans.

Don't know what's come over you
You found someone new
And don't it make my brown eyes blue
I'll be fine when you're gone
I'll just cry all night long
Say it isn't true
Tell me no secrets, tell me some lies
Give me no reasons, give me alibies
Tell me you love me and don't make me cry
Say anything but don't say goodbye
I didn't mean to treat you bad
Didn't know just what I had
But honey, now I do
And don't it make my brown eyes blue
I didn't mean to treat you bad
Didn't know just what I had
But honey, now I do
And don't it make my brown eyes
Don't it make my brown eyes
Don't it make my brown eyes blue
Don't it make my brown eyes
Don't it make my brown eyes
Don't it make my brown eyes blue
In "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue," Laura Fygi tells the story of a woman who has just found out that her lover has left her for someone else. She expresses her feelings of heartbreak and vulnerability as she struggles to come to terms with this unexpected turn of events. The lyrics are simple yet poignant, with lines like "I'll be fine when you're gone, I'll just cry all night long" conveying the depth of emotion that the singer is feeling.
Throughout the song, Fygi intersperses moments of self-reflection, wondering where she went wrong in the relationship and expressing regret for not realizing how much she cared for her partner until it was too late. The chorus, with its repeated refrain of "don't it make my brown eyes blue," serves as a powerful reminder of the pain that she is experiencing.
The bridge of the song is especially striking, as Fygi begs her partner not to leave her and lists all of the reasons why she wants to believe that their relationship can be salvaged. This section serves as a contrast to the more resigned tone of the rest of the song, as Fygi's protagonist refuses to give up hope even in the face of heartbreak.
Overall, "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" is a moving and relatable portrayal of a relationship in crisis. Fygi's understated yet powerful delivery allows the listener to feel the full impact of the song's emotional message.
