D… Read Full Bio ↴Laura Fygi (born August 27, 1955, in Amsterdam) is a Dutch singer.
Daughter to a Dutch father, a manager at Philips, and an Egyptian mother, a belly dancer by profession, Fygi lived with her parents in South America for the first eight years of her life.
Between 1987 and 1991, she was a member of popular Dutch girl-band, Centerfold. During performances, the trio dressed themselves in sexy lingerie. They had hits in the Netherlands and all over Europe, and were equally famous in Japan.
In 1991, the ladies of Centerfold stopped performing and Fygi (together with Rowan Moore) started a band called The Backlot. After one performance in Dutch theatre Paradiso, an album was expected, but Mercury Records had already asked Fygi to make a solo album. This first album, Introducing Laura Fygi, comprised mostly jazz numbers, and was produced by Ruud Jacobs. In the album, Fygi was accompanied by celebrated Belgian musician Toots Thielemans.
Eternal flame
Laura Fygi Lyrics

Do you feel my heart beating
Do you understand
Do you feel the same
Am I only dreaming
Is this burning an eternal flame
I believe it's meant to be, darling
You belong with me
Do you feel the same
Am I only dreaming
Or is this burning an eternal flame
Say my name sun shines through the rain
A whole life so lonely
And then you come and ease the pain
I don't want to lose this feeling
Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling
Do you feel my heart beating
Do you understand
Do you feel the same
Am I only dreaming
Is this burning an eternal flame
I believe it's meant to be, darling
I watch you when you are sleeping
You belong with me
Do you feel the same
Am I only dreaming
Or is this burning an eternal flame
The lyrics to Laura Fygi’s song “Eternal Flame” convey a sense of longing, love, and passion between two people. The singer wants to know if the person they are in love with feels the same burning desire as they do. They ask if this love is an eternal flame, a love that will burn forever. The singer believes that the two are meant to be together, and that the person they love belongs with them. As they sing “You belong with me” and question if the other person feels the same, they are seeking clarification and reassurance that their love is not one-sided.
Throughout the song, the singer uses metaphorical language to describe their love, such as “this burning eternal flame” and “sun shines through the rain”. These lyrics can be interpreted as a way to express the intensity of their feelings, the lightness and warmth of the love they share, and the longing for their love to be reciprocated. The line “I watch you when you are sleeping” is particularly intimate, suggesting that the singer is deeply connected to the person they love both physically and emotionally.
