D… Read Full Bio ↴Laura Fygi (born August 27, 1955, in Amsterdam) is a Dutch singer.
Daughter to a Dutch father, a manager at Philips, and an Egyptian mother, a belly dancer by profession, Fygi lived with her parents in South America for the first eight years of her life.
Between 1987 and 1991, she was a member of popular Dutch girl-band, Centerfold. During performances, the trio dressed themselves in sexy lingerie. They had hits in the Netherlands and all over Europe, and were equally famous in Japan.
In 1991, the ladies of Centerfold stopped performing and Fygi (together with Rowan Moore) started a band called The Backlot. After one performance in Dutch theatre Paradiso, an album was expected, but Mercury Records had already asked Fygi to make a solo album. This first album, Introducing Laura Fygi, comprised mostly jazz numbers, and was produced by Ruud Jacobs. In the album, Fygi was accompanied by celebrated Belgian musician Toots Thielemans.
How Am I Supposed To Live Without You
Laura Fygi Lyrics

When I heard the news today
I had to come and get it straight from you
They said you were leavin'
Someone's swept your heart away
From the look upon your face
I see it's true
So tell me all about it
Then tell me one thing more before I go
Tell me how am supposed to live without you
Now that I've been lovin' you so long
How am I supposed to live without you
How am I supposed to carry on
When all that I've been livin 'for is gone
I didn't come here for cryin'
Didn't come here to breakdown
It's just a dream of mine is coming to an end
And how can I blame you
When I build my world around
The hope that one day we'd be so much
More than friends
And I don't wanna know the price I'm
Gonna pay for dreaming
When even now it's more than I can take
The lyrics in Laura Fygi's "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You" evoke feelings of heartbreak, as the singer realizes through a third party that her lover has left her. The opening lines indicate the singer's shock at receiving the news, and her urgency to seek confirmation from her lover. Upon seeing the truth in her lover's eyes, the singer wants to know everything about their future plans, but before she goes she asks the most important question - how can she go on living without her partner?
The chorus emphasizes the desperation felt by the singer, who has loved her partner for so long that she cannot imagine life without them. The singer is lost, without a direction or purpose, as everything that she has been living for has vanished with her partner's departure. In an attempt to remain composed, the singer asserts that she did not come "for crying" or to "breakdown," but it is clear that she is heartbroken.
The final lines of the second verse acknowledge the unrealistic nature of the singer's dreams of a future with her partner, but she cannot help but feel the sting of their failure. Dreams she considered 'more than friends' turned out to be futile as her world vanishes with the departure of the person she had hoped to spend her life with. The song and the lyrics emphasize the importance of relationships and what it means to lose them.
