D… Read Full Bio ↴Laura Fygi (born August 27, 1955, in Amsterdam) is a Dutch singer.
Daughter to a Dutch father, a manager at Philips, and an Egyptian mother, a belly dancer by profession, Fygi lived with her parents in South America for the first eight years of her life.
Between 1987 and 1991, she was a member of popular Dutch girl-band, Centerfold. During performances, the trio dressed themselves in sexy lingerie. They had hits in the Netherlands and all over Europe, and were equally famous in Japan.
In 1991, the ladies of Centerfold stopped performing and Fygi (together with Rowan Moore) started a band called The Backlot. After one performance in Dutch theatre Paradiso, an album was expected, but Mercury Records had already asked Fygi to make a solo album. This first album, Introducing Laura Fygi, comprised mostly jazz numbers, and was produced by Ruud Jacobs. In the album, Fygi was accompanied by celebrated Belgian musician Toots Thielemans.

Laura Fygi Lyrics

And I'm without you once again.
You laughed at me, you said you've never needed me,
I wonder if you need me now.
We played the grams that people play, we made mistakes along the way.
Somehow I know deep in my heart, you needed me.
Remembering the pain, if I must say, it's deep in my mind and locked away,
But then most of all, I do love you
Those memories, times I'm sure we'll never forget,
Those feelings we can't put aside.
For what we had, sometimes I try to understand,
But it's so heavy on my mind.
So many dreams that flew away, so many words we didn't say.
Two people lost in a storm, where did we go, where'd we go?
Lost what we both had found, you know we let each other down.
But then most of all, I do love you
Still.
We played the games that people play,
We made mistakes along the way.
Somehow I know deep in my heart, you needed me.
Cause I needed you so desperately.
We were too blind to see, but then,
Most of all, I do love you
The lyrics of Laura Fygi’s “Still” evoke a sense of nostalgia and introspection. The first verse talks about the emptiness of a morning without the person the singer was with. It’s a feeling of being left behind, of being abandoned. There is a sense of regret as well, with the realization that the person who said they didn’t need her might actually need her now.
The second verse delves deeper into the memories of the past when they were together. The singer talks about the dreams they shared and how they let each other down. There is a sense of unease, a feeling of being lost in a storm. The pain of those memories is still present, but so is the love.
The chorus is a repetition of the idea that they made mistakes, but despite that, there is still love. It’s an acknowledgment of the flaws in the relationship, but also a recognition that love endures.
Overall, the lyrics of “Still” speak to the complexities of love and how it can be both painful and beautiful at the same time. It’s a reflection on past mistakes, but also a declaration of enduring love.
