Maybe the sky is clearer in another place
But you got diamonds under your feet
But you got diamonds in your heart
Waiting for a day of change to come
And you're beautiful, dancing in a gloomy store
But you got diamonds under your feet
But you got diamonds in your heart
But you got diamonds in your heart
The song "Diamonds" by Laura Mvula is an uplifting anthem about recognizing the value within oneself despite difficult circumstances. The first two lines seem to suggest that sometimes things may seem better elsewhere, but in reality, they may not be. The grass may not be greener on the other side which implies that one should be grateful for what they have. Additionally, the sky may be clearer somewhere else, but this does not necessarily mean that peace of mind can be found somewhere else.
In the chorus, Laura reminds the listener that they are special, and they possess "diamonds" in their heart and under their feet. The lyrics are a metaphor for the innate value we have within ourselves as humans. The reference to diamonds under the feet could be an allusion to the idea of walking on diamond-studded floors, which are often associated with luxury, elegance, and opulence. This symbolizes the uniqueness and worth of the individual, and nobody can compare to this. Even if they are walking in a gloomy place or in adverse situations, there is still hope in their heart and value in their being.
In summary, the song "Diamonds" is a message of hope and recognition that we all have value within ourselves, and this value is not dependent on external circumstances. We need to appreciate and embrace our unique qualities instead of comparing ourselves to other people or situations.

What an amazing batting average Laura Mvula has. Her new songs astound us. Old songs (the ones we know well) we never tire of them. Marvelous, wondrous, glorious, stupendous.
