Mvula grew up in the Birmingham suburbs of Selly Park and Kings Heath with two younger siblings, and was influenced by the girl band Eternal. She sang with Black Voices, an a capella group set up by her aunt. She graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in composition. While she was working as a supply teacher in a Birmingham secondary school, she started writing songs on her laptop. I Don't Know What The Weather Will Be
Laura Mvula Lyrics

Caught my feet so eery and my heart need mending
Is it true and all this could be it
I'm not ready for this to be ended
I don't know what the weather will be
Whether we'll see on tomorrow
Do what you want to
Tell me another story with a brand new meaning
Cut my heart so wheery and my head need healing
Is it true and all this could be it
I'm not ready for this to be ended
I don't know what the weather will be
Whether we'll see on tomorrow
But if today is all I have to believe, I give to you
Do what you want to
I don't know what the weather will be
Whether we'll see on tomorrow
But if today is all I have to believe, I give to you
Do what you want to
In the song "I Don't Know What The Weather Will Be," Laura Mvula is seeking comfort and reassurance in a turbulent time in her life, where everything seems uncertain and unsettling. She pleads for someone, presumably a lover or a confidant, to tell her a story with a happy ending and a new meaning, cutting through the hollowness and the weariness that she feels within herself. While she is not sure what the future holds, she is willing to give them everything she has, to do what they want to, to find solace in the present moment. The lyrics highlight a longing for human connection and intimacy, a need for someone to listen and understand, and a belief that even amid chaos, hope and joy can be found.
The song conveys a sense of vulnerability and emotional openness, which is characteristic of Laura Mvula's music. Her vocals are soulful and nuanced, conveying a range of emotions from despair to hope, from confusion to clarity. The lyrics are simple but evocative, imbued with a sense of forlorn beauty that is both melancholic and uplifting. The instrumentation is sparse yet effective, with a subtle blend of piano, percussion, and strings that creates an ethereal, dreamlike quality.
