Inevitable
Lauren Daigle Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
On the days when the strength in my heart's giving out
There's a light but it hides from me deep in the cloud
There's a voice that I need but I don't hear a sound
Ever running to what I can't see
Fighting out of all my unbelief
Father, even then my song will be
It's inevitable
Set Your promise to play on repeat in my head
When You meet my anxiety, put it to death
Ever running to what I can't see
Fighting out of all my unbelief
Father, even then my song will be
I know You will always carry me
It's inevitable
It's inevitable
It's inevitable
It's inevitable
The lyrics to Lauren Daigle's song "Inevitable" are about the struggle to maintain faith and hope in the face of doubt and anxiety. The song begins with Daigle acknowledging the moments when her mind starts to "creep and doubt" and when her "heart's giving out." She describes feeling lost and uncertain, with the light and the voice she needs hidden from her view and hearing range. Despite this, she maintains an unwavering commitment to "running to what [she] can't see" and "fighting out of all [her] unbelief."
But in the face of doubt and anxiety, Daigle turns to her faith, asking her "Father" (presumably God) to help her maintain her connection to a higher power. She acknowledges that faith can be hard to maintain, and asks for a constant reminder to "set [his] promise to play on repeat in [her] head." She calls on her faith to help her overcome her anxiety and doubts, both of which she personifies as things that can be defeated or put to death.
The chorus of the song reinforces the message of the title: that despite the challenges that come with maintaining faith and hope, those things are "inevitable." Daigle seems to suggest that even when everything seems lost, there is still a chance for faith and hope to prevail as long as she maintains her connection to a higher power.

Grammy Lauren, would you want me to stand up every time you entered the room, or say yes mam, yes mam to your requests, or bow at every conceivable time for that? No, you would not want that. Of course, you'd shiver and cringe or get angry at the polar opposite. You would I suppose desire me to act somewhere in the middle, and that includes respectful but firm criticism about things important, like at the first draft of a new song lyric. Mom treated me like that. For instance, when I came up with a song which I titled Mister Mountain (thinking of the rugged Rockies) she abruptly pointed out that it should go Mama Mountain. She was not a wishy-washy person. And I should not tiptoe thru the tulips. I shouldn't walk softly but carry a big stick. Instead walk steady but carry a damp noodle. And so I am steady, unwavering and to-the-point about e.g. your lyrics. At this time, I wish to duel with your mind re. a certain place in your song 'Inevitable.' Let me explain first that I am a New Testament man, and a Jesus man. An eye for an eye is set to the side to give room for a turning of the cheek. And OT instructions on ravaging an over-turned fortress and town (in Deuteronomy) are replaced by (Matthew 26:52) "Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword."
Importantly, I am a G.O.A.L. man. (Glorifying Our Astonishing Lord). Better yet, I am a G.O.A.L.J. man (GOAL-Jesus). Why is the name so important? " Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12) In addition, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" (John 1:12) By reading verse 12 in context, it becomes plain that 'his name' is Jesus. Another verse: "Mat 1:21 (NIV) "She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus [Yeshua, Hebrew for 'salvation'], because he will save his people from their sins." This bears repeating: "...the name Jesus [Yeshua, Hebrew for 'salvation']..." The quote in Matthew 1:21 is given by an angel of the Lord to Joseph in a dream. By understanding that the name 'Jesus' is the name 'Yeshua' and Yeshua is defined as salvation, it is apparent that Jesus is Savior (salvation).
Sorry to 'wander' in the previous paragraph (although it helps you understand me better and so forth....). I'm about to jump on something in 'Inevitable' yet after a little research, I find that there is nothing wrong with it. But since I am a GOAL-Jesus person, I wish you would be praying to Jesus in the 7th and 8th lines of 'Inevitable.' If you were to react, "What about the Lord's Prayer," I could counter, "Dr. Merrill Unger [Ungers Bible Dictionary] points out that The Lord's Prayer is for future (eternal) use and not for the present. The two lines: [Father, even then my song will be I know You will always carry me] These 2 lines of your song are impeccable. They have OT backup. Yet on the other hand the famous poem "Footprints in the Sand" describes the Lord carrying the child during the most trying times that young one would have experienced.
The paragraphs above leave me to wonder if it would be appropriate (and delightful to GOAL-Jesus people) for Jesus to be used instead of Father in your good song 'Inevitable.'
In ending, I don't like what I did above. I don't think I'm going to do it again. That is, I'm not going to make a suggestion that may result in hard feelings, or even an argument. Love takes time and effort to cultivate and maintain and grow. I'm not sure that the following applies, but it's a lovely verse: "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

She never mention Jesus in this song. So sad.
John 4 King James Version (KJV)
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Isaiah 29 King James Version (KJV)
13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.
15 Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?
