Laurence Fox Lyrics

It's too bad that the life was your own
You saw no good in the beautiful dark
And so you had to call her back
Oh, go home
I'm getting tired
Of hearing where you came from
To let her be free
But you're so alone
You leave her no shelter now you know
No one to save her from her storm
But it's so hard
Building a house in the dark
You have a child between you now
I thank God that she's too young to know
Why you don't touch in the dark of the night
And why there's something calling you
Something calling you home
Go home
I'm getting tired
Of hearing where you came from
Know that you've tried so hard
To let her be free
But you're so alone
You leave her no shelter now you know
No one to save her from her storm
But it's so hard
Building a house in the dark
Take all the things that I promised
And build her own for when I'm gone
'Cause I can shelter you no more
There is no peace
From all your storms that rage
'Cause it's so hard
Building a house in the dark
You know that it's so hard
Building a house in the dark
So don't go go
No no no no no
These lyrics touch on themes of regret, loneliness, and the difficulties of building a stable foundation in the midst of darkness. The first stanza speaks to someone taking their own life in order to be with the person they love, but ultimately realizing that they can't be with that person in the afterlife because they didn't see the good in the world around them. The chorus speaks to the loneliness of the person left behind, who has tried to let their partner be free but feels increasingly isolated. The second verse brings up the couple's child, and how the parent's struggles impact their relationship and make it harder to keep their family together. The final stanza is a plea for the person not to go, despite the difficulties they face.
Overall, the song is a poignant reflection on the challenges of maintaining relationships and building a meaningful life, particularly in the face of isolation and hardship. It speaks to the importance of finding solace and comfort in those around us, as well as the need to appreciate the beauty of the world even in its darkest moments.
