Overall Meaning

"L-L-L, L-L-Listen, Listen T-L-L, Listen to my heartbeat" are the opening lines of Laurie Anderson's song "Late Show." The song is a commentary on the fast-paced, technologically-driven world we live in and how it's affecting our ability to connect with one another on a deeper level. The repetition of "L-L-L" and "Listen" is meant to grab the listener's attention and draw them in, encouraging them to really focus on what the song is saying.

The line "Listen to my heartbeat" is particularly poignant, as it's a reminder that amidst all the noise and distractions of the modern world, there's still a beating heart at the center of everything. Anderson is urging her listeners to slow down, to take a breath, and to really listen to themselves and those around them. The song is a call to mindfulness and a reminder that despite all the chaos, we can still find moments of stillness and connection if we're willing to seek them out.

Overall, "Late Show" is a powerful commentary on the state of our society and our relationship with technology. By using repetition and a simple, yet effective message, Anderson is able to create a song that's both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant.

I saw this concert in Chicago in the 80's  Wow and Wow!

pathetic words for the experience of Laurie Anderson.  Her wildly crazy Microphone and Amazing Violin using MIDI long before almost anyone knew much about it.  Saw DEVO around that time too - Pioneers in the tech at the time.  Go North Western!

DEVO! Yes! I saw them a few years before I heard Laurie Anderson for the first time on the radio. I was overseas at the time, so it took almost 20 years before I had the oppotunity to see her (BAM, Knitting Factory). Always an awesome show!
