Laurika matriculated at the Jan van Riebeeck High School in Cape Town and studied drama at the University of Stellenbosch. She became a household name in the late seventies with the hit "Kinders van die Wind". Laurika was one of the most prominent singers involved in the resurgence of popular Afrikaans music in the early eighties.
After a two year stint as an actress for PACT Playwork in the late seventies, she also obtained prominence for her performances in Taubie Kushlickâs Jacques Brel productions of the early eighties at the Chelsea Theatre in Hillbrow.
In August 1996 the honour befell Laurika to perform with the Transvaal Philharmonic Orchestra (renamed NAPOP - now disbanded) in a programme consisting entirely of her own repertoire. She gave two sold out performances at the State Theatre in Pretoria.
Laurika has performed in Belgium, the Netherlands, London, the Czech Republic and Frankfurt am Main. In December 1993 she sang to an audience of 13 000 in Utrecht, accompanied by the well-known Metropole Orchestra. In March 1997 the Charles University in Prague invited her to perform with her pianist before an audience of academics from the deutsch language groups from all over Europe and Eastern Europe. The occasion was a Jubilee Celebration of the Department of Netherlandistics at the Charles University.

tenderness
Laurika Rauch Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'd give you diamonds
Which the devil caresses
In my treasure chest
Why do you think, my love
Does a sailor in port
Turn out his pockets
To phoney princesses
For a little tenderness
For a little tenderness
I'd change the way I look
I'd change my drunken habits
I'd change the way I talk
Why do you think, my love
That while singing their songs
Emperors and singers
Often throw away
Riches and power
For a little tenderness
For a little tenderness
At my summer's end
I'd offer you what's left of
The days of my youth
How else can you explain
Why, of everything I do,
Every song is meant for you
All the old and all the new
And these I'd give you
For a little tenderness
The song "Tenderness" by Laurika Rauch is a beautiful piece that explores the lengths someone would go to show their affection for another through the use of metaphors. The lyrics depict the idea that for just a little bit of tenderness, one is ready to sacrifice and offer everything they hold dear. The song focuses on acts of giving materialistic things, sacrificing personal vices, and giving up one's youth, all for the sake of gaining the desired tenderness.
The first verse discusses the act of giving diamonds, which are treasures that the devil caresses, to obtain tenderness. This line means that the songwriter is willing to give something precious and valuable to attain the desired affection from their loved one. The second verse talks about changing one's habits, appearance, and way of talking in exchange for tenderness. This line signifies that the songwriter is willing to change themselves to make their loved one happy. In the last verse, the songwriter discusses giving up days of their youth to make their loved one happy. The lyrics suggest that everything the songwriter does is centered on the loved one, with all their songs dedicated to them, both old and new.
Overall, the song "Tenderness" by Laurika Rauch is a beautifully written love song that showcases the sacrificial love one is willing to give to obtain a little bit of tenderness from their beloved. The lyrics tell a story of selflessness, dedication, and immense love.
