Comfortable
Lauv Lyrics
Laying here wrapped in white just trying to not fight again
'Cause I've been holding on too long just to let it end
Oh I must be walking on egg shells
Trying not to sell myself out
I bet that's what she's thinking
That's when she said
That's when she said
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Yeah she said, baby do ya?
Or are you just comfortable?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Yeah she said, baby do ya?
Or are you just comfortable?
Trying my best to show appreciation, oh yeah
But all apologies are just a miscommunication
Now it's like I'm walking on eggshells
Trying not to burn the hell out
It's like pulling magic from my mouth
That's when she said
That's when she said
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Yeah she said, baby do ya?
Or are you just comfortable?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Yeah she said, baby do ya?
Or are you just comfortable?
Could I ever do enough to make this coffee more than bitter water?
Could I ever do enough to make you wear this love not like a collar?
Could I ever do enough to make you feel the way you want to feel?
So the next time that you're sad, tell me that
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Ooh, baby do ya?
Or are you just comfortable?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Yeah she said, baby do ya? (want it bad, want it bad, want it bad)
Or are you just comfortable? (want it bad, want it bad, want it bad)
Are you just comfortable?

โComfortableโ is the third track on Lauvโs debut compilation album "I met you when I was 18". It was initially released as the second track of his debut EP "Lost in the Light".
The track features a jazzy, upbeat melody which goes back to Lauvโs roots as he learnt jazz guitar over regular guitar when he was in high school. He discussed this in an interview with Coup De Main:
"Itโs funny because when I first started learning the jazz stuff when I was younger I was like, โOh Iโll never use this. "Itโs funny because when I first started learning the jazz stuff when I was younger I was like, โOh Iโll never use this.โ Then for example on my song โComfortable,โ when I was writing that song I just started using these ideas, a couple of weird chords throughout, and I was like, โWow, I finally did use some jazz!โ"
Lyrically, the track describes a situation where he questions his relationship to a significant other. He feels that love is fading between the two of them, and they are only holding on because they are comfortable.

COMFORTABLE LYRICS
[Verse 1]
Laying here wrapped in white just trying to not fight again
Cause Iโve been holding on too long just to let it end
Ohh I must be walking on eggshells
Trying not to sell myself out
I bet thatโs what sheโs thinking
Thatโs when she said
Thatโs when she said
[Chorus]
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Yeah she said, baby do ya?
Or are you just comfortable?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Yeah she said, baby do ya?
Or are you just comfortable?
[Verse 2]
Trying my best to show appreciation
But all apologies are just a miscommunication
Now itโs like Iโm walking on eggshells
Trying not to burn the hell out
Itโs like pulling magic from my mouth
Thatโs when she said
Thatโs when she said
[Chorus]
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Yeah she said, baby do ya?
Or are you just comfortable?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Yeah she said, baby do ya?
Or are you just comfortable?
[Bridge]
Could I ever do enough to make this coffee more than bitter water?
Could I ever do enough to make you wear this love not like a collar?
Could I ever do enough to make you feel the way you want to feel?
So the next time that youโre sad, tell me thatโฆ
[Chorus]
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Yeah she said, baby do ya?
Or are you just comfortable?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Do you want it bad?
Yeah she said, baby do ya?
(Want it bad, want it bad, want it bad)
Or are you just comfortable?
(Want it bad, want it bad, want it bad)

I know this song is about a relationship but for some reason it makes me think about the moments in life when everything is going wrong, you have to continue pushing harder and you are asking yourself how bad you want to succeed and live or are you just so complacent with mediocrity you can't be bothered to die. For me this song is strangely motivational.

That's what I love about music... So many different interpretations it can be about anything you want it to be if you connect the meaning with your own life.
