on the road again
Lavilliers (Bernard) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Bandits joyeux, insolents et drôles
On attendait que la mort nous frôle
On the road again, again
On the road again, again
On the road again, again
On the road again, again
(On the road again, again, oh)
(On the road again, again, oh)
On the road again, again
On the road again, again
(Again, on the road, again)
On the road again, again
On the road again, again
Ami, sais-tu que les mots d'amour
Voyagent mal de nos jours?
Tu partira encore plus lourd
On the road again, again
On the road again, again
On the road again, again (oh)
On the road again, again (oh)
On the road again
The song "On The Road Again" by Lavilliers Bernard talks about the adventure-filled life of a group of young bandits. They were carefree, insolent, and playful, always waiting for death to come their way. The first few lines describe their physical build, being young and having broad shoulders, which is a common trait of people who engage in physical activities like riding or travelling the world on foot. They were always on the move, hence the repetition of "On the road again."
The second verse states that they left Ireland at dawn, leaving behind landscapes they could never forget. They knew that someday their actions would catch up to them, and they would pay the price for their crimes. But that didn't stop them from living their lives on their own terms. The final verse is more contemplative, with the realization that life is fleeting and we are all just "passing through." The loss of some of the bandits is acknowledged, and the idea that love cannot truly be conveyed in words anymore is shared.
Overall, the song speaks about the freedom that comes with living on the road, not being tied down to one place or one way of life, and the thrilling-yet-dangerous experiences one can have while constantly being on the move.

Mille fois bravo!
