Background
Laze & Royal's devotion to music stems from their parents. Their father sang tenor for The Platters and their mother was a stage singer. At home, their mother would play Al Green and The Platters while their older brother Jeff exposed the brothers to Snoop Dogg, N.W.A, Sublime, and Eve 6. Through these eclectic musical influences, the brothers began singing and rapping. When they were 11-years old, they were discovered by producer Christopher "Tricky" Stewart (Atlanta based co-creator of Rihanna's "Umbrella").
A crucial componenet of Laze & Royal's career has been their current manager, David Esterson of Monopoly Music. Esterson met Laze & Royal when they were 14, providing them with a Pro Tools equipped studio and pushing them to become a self-contained writing/producing/recording team without equal. The group takes pride in being one of the few groups to write and produce all of their own material.
The group's song "Like a Pistol" grabbed the attention of BMI's 2007 Pop Songwriter of the Year, Kara DioGuardi which eventually led to a meeting with the CEO of Warner Bros. Records and subsequently a record deal with Warner Bros. Records. With "Like a Pistol" catching fire at radio stations and their online fan base explding, Laze & Royal are hard at work on their debut album.
In My Room
Laze & Royal Lyrics

And I’ll follow suit
Stray for a day, there’s something to say
And I’ll think of it soon
Tell me a time when I’ll be fine
And you’ll be fine too
An honest wage for an honest day
Of work and hiding my gloom
What more does it take
To not take up space
In a room?
Yeah, just a boy in a room
Yeah, just a boy in a room
Yeah, just a boy in a room
Yeah, just a boy in a room
The lyrics to Laze & Royal's song In My Room depict a sense of isolation and the desire for companionship. The first few lines urge the listener to "sail away" and "stay out of lanes," while the singer promises to follow suit. The idea of escaping from the troubles and stresses of everyday life is evident in the following lines, where the singer suggests that taking a day to wander and think will alleviate the sense of gloom.
The song then takes on a more melancholy tone as the singer asks for reassurance that they and their listener will be okay. The idea of an "honest wage" implies that the singer desires a simple life, one without the complications and anxieties that come with the pursuit of wealth and status. The final lines of the chorus emphasize the singer's feelings of smallness and insignificance, as they describe themselves as "just a boy in a room." The repetition of this phrase reinforces the singer's sense of loneliness and their desire for connection.
