Miss You Like Christmas
LeAnn Rimes Lyrics

How long has it been
can't remember when
yeah, it's been awhile
years look good on you
but I expect them to
I sure missed that smile
Look you got me grinning
bet I'm blushing too
don't have to be a genius
to see the honest truth
I miss you like Christmas baby
that's just how it's been
there's that kind of message
like we were back when
Sure I've gone on since you baby
lost my heart a time or two
I miss you like Christmas baby
that's it, I just do
The leaves begin to change
the first frost is back again
all the cards and pumpkin pie
Jingle Bells, and Silent Night
And an all familiar end
I can't deny
I miss you like Christmas baby
that's just how it's been
there's that kind of message
like we were back when
Sure I've gone on since you baby
lost my heart a time or two
I miss you like Christmas baby
that's it, I just do
Ooh, I miss you like Christmas baby
that's it, ooh, I just do

Sorry to say, very sorry, this potentially great song--terrific lyrics, catchy memorable melody, wonderful tone and intonation--has been ignored and forgotten for fifteen years since the release of this recording, because LeAnn's performance buries it. Dead on arrival. How sad. As I write this, I see there have been only 655 views---for an established artist like LeAnn--while youtube nobodies I could name get MILLIONS of views on covers of, say, Dylan tunes from the long ago. Why? It's not rocket science: the lyric, so touching and intimate, potentially powerful, has been swallowed in this version. No listener can follow the words, and the key words get lost too. So, the power of the song is totally missing. Also, the volume in the lines delivered is also grossly inconsistent. Listen to the first lines again--up, down, up, down. Where's the flow of the first question? Each sentence? Where is the breath control on the key phrases? Non-existent. NOW let me tell you what I really think: This song could be and should be a "Christmas classic," played and replayed every year by radio stations all over, but it's buried because somebody forgot to teach a great blues singer how to sell a Christmas song, forgot to tell Leann--or teach her--that if folks can't understand all the words the first time they hear a Christmas song it ain't what's for Christmas. If she'd spent one hour with Frank Sinatra back in the day, we'd we watching "LeAnn's Christmas" on TV not just Reba. Sad.

I grew up with the GREATS, Dean Martin was my favorite. Frank was neither good looking or the best singer in my book but the MOB loved him and he was POWERFUL so he got radio time therefore the PEOPLE loved him. I know what you are saying but there is room for every kind of singer in this world. LeAnn did this her way and a lot of people like it. Get over it.

@Sophie Boisvert You must not have read the entire comment by David Wolf because he basically VERY MUCH DISLIKED LeAnn's version of this song. He's "hating" on her.

Sophie Boisvert

I wish more people would know her great talent too. Leann is really the best singer for me. I have been listening to her since I first heard her song on the radio Her best songs are not played on the radio Very Sad!
