Cause I love you
I've been a pierrot for my love
These lyrics from Le Couple's song (Natsu no Piero, or "Summer Pierrot") depict a story of unrequited love and the singer's realization of their role as a "summer pierrot." In the first verse, the singer describes standing in the summer rain while the person they love pays them no attention. The person has already decided to give their final kiss to someone else and has moved on without any consideration for the singer's feelings. The singer confesses that they always acted silly and playful in hopes of seeing the person's smile, but the reflection in their sad eyes does not include the singer. This makes the singer realize that their love was merely a temporary distraction, and they were unaware of this truth.
In the second verse, the singer reflects on the fact that they should have held onto the person and expressed their desire to be together forever. However, their fear and hesitation prevented them from doing so. The song then addresses the person directly, expressing that even though the summer is coming to an end, it is acceptable for them to cry because even the person who acts as their pierrot (a type of clown or entertainer) is feeling sad. The singer reiterates that they always acted clownishly with the motive of making the person smile, but the reflection in their sad eyes does not include the singer. The singer accepts that their love was merely a temporary comfort, and they were oblivious to this truth.
The repetition of the phrase "夏のピエロ(Natsu no Piero)" in the chorus emphasizes the singer's realization of their role as a "summer pierrot." It symbolizes their realization that they were used as a temporary source of entertainment or distraction during the summer, but the person they loved had already chosen someone else. The final line, "I've been a pierrot for my love," emphasizes the singer's understanding that they played their role as a pierrot, but their love was not reciprocated. It encapsulates the theme of unrequited love and the singer's acceptance of their role as a temporary figure in the person's life during the summer.
