Battlefield
Lea Michele Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's easy to fall in love
But it's so hard to break somebody's heart
What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield
Once lust has turned to dust and all that's left's held breath
Forgotten who we first met
What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

We both know it's coming
Does illusion count for something we hide?
The surface tension's gotta break, one drop is all it takes to flood out this lie

You and I
We have to let each other go
We keep holding on but we both know
What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield
Peace will come when one of us puts down the gun
Be strong for both of us
No please, don't run, don't run
Eye to eye, we face our fears unarmed on the battlefield

We seemed like a good idea
We seemed like a good idea

No blood will spill if we both get out now
Still it's hard to put the fire out
What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield
Feelings are shifting like the tide
And I think too much about the future
What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

We both know it's coming
Does illusion count for something we hide?
The surface tension's gotta break, one drop is all it takes to flood out this lie

You and I
We have to let each other go
We keep holding on but we both know
What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

Peace will come when one of us puts down the gun
Be strong for both of us
No please, don't run, don't run
Eye to eye, we face our fears unarmed on the battlefield

We seemed like a good idea
We seemed like a good idea

We seemed like a good idea
We seemed like a good idea

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lea Michele’s song Battlefield reflect the complexity of relationships and what happens when things turn sour. The song explores the idea that while falling in love may be easy, breaking somebody’s heart is a difficult task. The chorus mentions the transformation of what was once a good idea into a battlefield. The lines “Once lust has turned to dust and all that's left’s held breath/Forgotten who we first met” portray the struggle of trying to hold on to something that is no longer there.

The lyrics encourage the idea of acknowledging the end of a relationship and facing the fears that come along with it. The line “We keep holding on but we both know” echoes the idea that it is time to let go. Yet, both parties are afraid to do so. The lyrics talk about how hard it is to end the relationship, and how the longer they wait, the deeper the wounds become. The line “No blood will spill if we both get out now/Still it's hard to put the fire out” shows that the fear of the unknown often keeps us from ending relationships.

The chorus repeats the line “Peace will come when one of us puts down the gun” multiple times, which can represent the idea that choosing to end the relationship is the only way to find peace. Overall, the lyrics of Battlefield are a powerful reminder that relationships are not always easy, but acknowledging when they have run their course can prevent further hurt.

@tonytunes9713

@SB_7 it takes way more talent to write and compose a song but okay. you can choose to thank a racist who thinks she deserves everything.

@iapsr

@Sam Totally agree.

@keirax6362

@TonyTunes for fu*k sake why are you on her video if you don’t like her , yes she made mistakes so have I and so have you NOBODY is perfect and EVERYONE makes mistakes if she wasn’t in the spotlight you wouldn’t be so obsessed with a mistake that was made years ago , the problem is jealousy isn’t a thing you want because it turns people into monsters . she made it ! Accept that Lea Michele is incredibly talented and deserves every drop of fame she has !!! Now grow a pair get off her page and don’t come back until you have got over a old stupid mistake and lost the jealousy

( and don’t go calling someone racist when you don’t know what really happened! my mum used to get called all sorts of DISGUSTING and HIGHLY DISRESPECTFUL racial slurs and they Lea isn’t racist she is a star and knows it )

Whatever else people say about her, there's no denying she CAN sing. A song about heartbreak. Amazing.

@rogenaqshairy3097

I dont like her but definitely I adore her songs

@briunhall

Right! Had a conversation about that tonight. Or they did lol. I didn't have much of comment about her personal life. I focus on the music, but everyone else likes to talk about the negative. We all have moments in our lives people forget about that when they are talking about other people.

@IommieAbrahamGarcia

Hmm what makes people hate her?
