The Word Of Your Body
Lea Michele Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Just too unreal, all this
Watching the words fall from my lips
Baiting some girl with hypotheses
Haven't you heard of the word of your body?

Don't feel a thing, you wish
Grasping at pearls with my fingertips
Holding her hand like some little tease
Haven't you heard the word of my wanting?

Oh, I'm gonna be wounded
Oh, I'm gonna be your wound
Oh, I'm gonna bruise you
Oh, you're gonna be my bruise

Just too unreal, all this
Watching his world slip though my fist
Playing with her in your fantasies
Haven't you heard a word, how I want you?

Oh, I'm gonna be wounded
Oh, I'm gonna be your wound

Oh, I'm gonna bruise you
Oh, you're gonna be my bruise

Overall Meaning

In Lea Michele's song "The Word Of Your Body," the lyrics portray a complex and intense emotional dynamic between two individuals. The words express a sense of longing and desire, as well as a deep understanding of the power that physical intimacy can hold.

The first verse suggests a situation where there is an element of manipulation and uncertainty. The singer talks about watching their words fall from their lips, possibly trying to lure someone with their ideas or theories. They question if the other person has ever experienced the profound connection that can be achieved through physical touch, hence the phrase "Haven't you heard of the word of your body?"

The second verse reveals a similar pattern, but from a different perspective. The singer talks about not feeling anything and using their fingertips to hold onto something precious. They mention a teasing behavior, possibly implying that they are using physical affection as a form of manipulation. They ask if the other person has truly understood their deep longing and desire, expressed as "Haven't you heard the word of my wanting?"

The chorus repeats the notion of being wounded and bruised, suggesting that this intense emotional connection has the potential to both hurt and leave a lasting impact on both individuals. It portrays a sense of vulnerability and emotional intensity in a relationship where physicality plays a significant role.

@125Dave8

People who say Lea Michele can't act and/or sing should really see videos of her in Spring Awakening...cause she totally kicks ass. Amazingly talented girl, with a beautiful voice. And a very good play as well. She and Jon Groff are really good together =D

@ihuxo

Uhhh.. who even says that? And give me their address so I can tell them they are v. wrong.

Okay so. I've grown up with musical theater but obviously I was never allowed to hear this soundtrack or know what Spring Awakening was about. But I knew the title 'cause it was really popular and all. When I thought of Spring Awakening when I was little, I imagined flowers and cute dancing and just completely child appropriate. It's so much fun to find out about these things when I'm grown up.

@KingCarrot500

Ironic that your parents resisted to show you a musical theatre show about the dangers of censoring adult matters to young people

@ohno3622

I always listened to Chicago without knowing what it was about. I thought it was about people in jail putting on a musical, like that episode of Kim Possible

@theatregirl7851

Sarah Williams SAME THO
