Need You Now
Lea Michele & Mark Salling Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Picture perfect memories scattered all around the floor
Reachin' for the phone 'cause I can't fight it anymore
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind
For me it happens all the time

It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now
Said I wouldn't call but I lost all control and I need you now
And I don't know how I can do without
I just need you now

Another shot of whiskey can't stop looking at the door
Wishing you'd come sweeping in the way you did before
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind
For me it happens all the time

It's a quarter after one, I'm a little drunk and I need you now
Said I wouldn't call but I lost all control and I need you now
And I don't know how I can do without
I just need you now

Whoa whoa
Guess I'd rather hurt than feel nothin' at all

It's a quarter after one I'm all alone and I need you now
And I said I wouldn't call
But I'm a little drunk
And I don't know how I can do without
I just need you now

I just need you now
Ooh, baby, I need you now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lea Michele and Mark Salling's song "Need You Now" describe a person who is heartbroken and nostalgic, thinking about the past with the one they once loved. The person is in a state of emotional weakness, browsing through "picture-perfect memories scattered all around the floor," and reaching for the phone to call their former partner. Despite the person's efforts to move on, they can't help but think about their former partner, and they wonder if their former loved one thinks about them as well.

The song's title, "Need You Now," is repeated several times throughout the song's chorus, emphasizing the desperation the person feels for their former partner in their current state of loneliness. They are struggling to cope with the idea of being alone, and they confess that they cannot exist without the one they love.

In the second verse, the person turns to whiskey, taking shots to numb the pain of being alone. They wish their former partner would come back to them, the way they used to do before. The bridge emphasizes the person's willingness to feel pain rather than feeling emptiness, further emphasizing their desperation and longing for their former lover.

the chemistry between puck and rachel is really unbelievable. the way his eyes never left her sight during the whole performance. i wish that they would’ve given puckleberry another chance rather than making her go back to finn all the damn time
