In League of Legends, players assume the role of an unseen "summoner" that controls a "champion" with unique abilities and battle against a team of other players or computer-controlled champions. The goal is usually to destroy the opposing team's "nexus", a structure which lies at the heart of a base protected by defensive structures. Each League of Legends match is discrete, with all champions starting off fairly weak but increasing in strength by accumulating items and experience over the course of the game.
League of Legends was generally well received at release, and has grown in popularity. By July 2012, League of Legends was the most played PC game in North America and Europe in terms of the number of hours played. As of January 2014, over 67 million people played League of Legends per month, 27 million per day, and over 7.5 million concurrently during peak hours.
League of Legends has an active and widespread competitive scene. In North America and Europe, Riot Games organizes the League Championship Series, located in Los Angeles and Berlin respectively, which consists of 10[5] professional teams in each continent. Similar regional competitions exist in China, South Korea, Taiwan, South America, and Southeast Asia. These regional competitions culminate with the annual World Championship, which in 2013, had a grand prize of $1 million and attracted 32 million viewers online. The 2014 and 2015 tournaments each gave out one of the largest prize pools in eSports history, at 2.3 million dollars. Winners also receive trophies, such as the Summoner's Cup, which was made by silversmiths Thomas Lyte.

And watch from far away
But you always knew that you'd be the one
That work while they all play
In youth, you'd lay
Awake at night and scheme
Of all the things that you would change
Here we are, don't turn away now
We are the warriors that built this town
Here we are, don't turn away now
We are the warriors that built this town
From dust
Here we are, don't turn away now (don't turn away)
We are the warriors that built this town (don't turn away)
We are the warriors that built this town
From dust
The song "Warriors" by Imagine Dragons was created for the popular online game League of Legends. The lyrics speak to the journey and perseverance that comes with being a warrior. The first stanza speaks to the idea of being an outsider, watching others play while knowing that one day you will be the one working hard to accomplish something. The second stanza emphasizes the dreaming and scheming that goes into achieving goals, but acknowledges that those dreams are not enough without action.
The chorus repeats the phrase "Here we are, don't turn away now" as a call to action for all warriors to unite and continue building the town from dust. The repetition of this phrase emphasizes the importance of community and working together towards a common goal. The song ends with a final affirmation of the warriors' hard work and dedication to their accomplishments.

As a child, you would wait
In childhood, you would wait impatiently
And watch from far away
And observe from a distance
But you always knew that you'd be the one
But you were always confident in your abilities
That work while they all play
To be the one who works while others relax
In youth, you'd lay
In adolescence, you used to lie down
Awake at night and scheme
And schemed at night
Of all the things that you would change
Of all the things you wished to change
But it was just a dream
But it was just a mere dream
Here we are, don't turn away now
We are here, don't look away now
We are the warriors that built this town
We are the ones who built this town with our hard work
Here we are, don't turn away now
We are here, don't look away now
We are the warriors that built this town
We are the ones who built this town with our hard work
From dust
From nothing
