Friendly Fire
Leagues Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I was fighting for you
I was trying to do
What I could do
And if it came across wrong
That wasn’t my intention
Sometimes I come across too strong
I think I just failed to mention
If I ever hurt you
That was never my desire
You’ve been wounded by my
Friendly Fire
Sometimes I get afraid, love
It’s you that I’de be missing
But fear only talks to those who listen
Listen…
If I ever hurt you
That was never my desire
You’ve been wounded by my
Friendly Fire
The song "Friendly Fire" by Leagues is a heartfelt apology to a loved one who may have been hurt by the singer's actions or words. The lyrics "I wasn't fighting with you, I was fighting for you" suggest that the singer's intentions were good, but they may have come across as wrong or too strong. The line "If I ever hurt you, that was never my desire" further emphasizes this sentiment.
The singer takes responsibility for their actions, acknowledging that the other person has been "wounded" by their "friendly fire." The use of the term "friendly fire" is particularly powerful, as it implies that the singer's words or actions were not intentionally hurtful, but still caused damage nonetheless. The chorus ends with a plea for the other person to "listen" to the singer's words, suggesting a desire for reconciliation and understanding.
