Iceglass met her partner-in-music, William Maybelline, over the internet. Conversing through music recommender website LastFM, they initially sent each other ’80s YouTube videos, establishing their shared love of music. Eventually Iceglass took the trip to Maybelline’s home in Sunderland in North England and the rest, as they say, is history.
They offer an ice cold post-punk, fascinated by the beauty of art nouveau aesthetics, exploring British seashores and forests at night as well as inspired by the urbanism of Berlin.
Babes of the 80s
Lebanon Hanover Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
to be silent and comfortable
The exploitation of humanity
that learn to accept it all
My generation I would never fit in
I should be saint but I want to murder, murder everyone
Babes of the late 80s why are you looking so random?
In my pathetic age group there's confusion
Through to a mental institution
There's of illusion
You would fantasize about the world's elimination
I didn't agree but now I must say at least you had imagination
People of my age have no attitude
I should give in but I want to murder, murder everyone
Babes of the late 80s why are you looking so random?
Without pasture there's no movement
In my pathetic age group there's confusion
Babes of the late 80s if you could???
How can absence be improvement?
Ooooh well, in my age group there's confusion
The lyrics in “Babes Of The 80s” by Lebanon Hanover speak of the lack of identity, attitude and imagination that the younger generation has. The song addresses the fact that people are exploited and taught to accept it all, leading to silence and comfort being valued at all costs. The singer feels like they do not belong in their own generation, yet they have violent tendencies towards everyone as they feel like they have no control over their own lives. The song also recognizes the past, “Babes of the late 80s,” who had more imagination and fantasies about eliminating the world as they had more attitude and were not as easily exploitable.
The song speaks to a larger societal problem of a lack of purpose or identity, leading to confusion and frustration. The singer longs for something more, wishing they could have been a “saint” instead of a violent man. The song is a critique of society's impact on the younger generation, leading to a lack of self-esteem, motivation, and ultimately identity. The past is seen as a time of creativity and vision, and without that, there is no succession.

Graduated high school 1987. I lived this. These were my people. I miss every single thing about those years, however the music lives on.. I'm blessed to have the ability to watch the memories play in my mind forever. Thank you 'Lebanon Hanover' for keeping New Wave music alive for the world to rediscover. Simple and beautiful.

I'm 60 this year and I feel like I'm back in the 80's listening and watching this - surely the best decade ever for music and individual style . I never knew what we had back then ,now gone like tears in the rain - but always remembered.
