Originally named the New Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin signed a deal with Atlantic Records that gave them considerable artistic freedom. Initially unpopular with critics, they achieved significant commercial success with eight studio albums over ten years. Their 1969 debut, Led Zeppelin, was a top-ten album in several countries and featured such tracks as "Good Times Bad Times", "Dazed and Confused" and "Communication Breakdown". Led Zeppelin II (1969) was their first number-one album, and yielded "Ramble On" and "Whole Lotta Love". In 1970, they released Led Zeppelin III which featured "Immigrant Song". Their untitled fourth album, commonly known as Led Zeppelin IV (1971), is one of the best-selling albums in history with 37 million copies sold. The album includes "Black Dog", "Rock and Roll" and "Stairway to Heaven", with the latter being among the most popular and influential works in rock history. Houses of the Holy (1973) yielded "The Ocean", "Over the Hills and Far Away" and "The Rain Song". Physical Graffiti (1975), a double album, featured "Trampled Under Foot" and "Kashmir".
Page wrote most of Led Zeppelin's music, particularly early in their career, while Plant wrote most of the lyrics. Jones's keyboard-based compositions later became central to their music, which featured increasing experimentation. The latter half of their career saw a series of record-breaking tours that earned the group a reputation for excess and debauchery. Although they remained commercially and critically successful, their touring and output, which included Presence (1976) and In Through the Out Door (1979), grew limited, and the group disbanded following Bonham's death in 1980. Since then, the surviving former members have sporadically collaborated and participated in one-off reunions. The most successful of these was the 2007 Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert in London, with Bonham's son Jason Bonham on drums.
Led Zeppelin are one of the best-selling music artists of all time; their total record sales are estimated to be between 200 and 300 million units worldwide. They achieved eight consecutive UK number-one albums and six number-one albums on the US Billboard 200, with five of their albums certified Diamond in the US. Rolling Stone magazine described them as "the heaviest band of all time", "the biggest band of the Seventies", and "unquestionably one of the most enduring bands in rock history". They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995; the museum's biography of the band states that they were "as influential" during the 1970s as the Beatles were during the 1960s.

We were so happy, woman, talkin' for hours and hours on the telephone
Then one day I set you up to walk right outta my life
Leavin' me all by myself, all alone, to cry every night
(Babe, babe, babe, babe, oh)
Oh, I want you to come back home, yeah
(Oh yeah)
Sweet little girl
You've been away so long
Now listen to me
I said I made up my mind, woman when you left me there, oh
I was gonna find another sweet lover who's gonna feel all of my, all of my, all
Of my cares
So I met a sweet little girl just about as nice as she could be, oh
I fell in love with that woman but she turned around, and did the same thing
Again to me, whoa
(Babe, babe, babe)
Oh baby, baby, please come home, home
(Come on home) home, yeah, it's alright
(Oh yeah) I know
(Ya been gone too long) been away so long
(Babe, babe, babe) I want you to please come home, oh
(Oh yeah, ya been gone too long)
So I made up my mind
I gonna crawl right back to you woman
I'm gonna plead and plead and plead, yeah
'Til you're here by my side
I can't even walk down the same old streets we used to walk down
Cause I keep thinking about all the good times
Keep thinkin' about it
I want to make you mine
Oh, babe
(Babe, babe, babe)
Babe, babe, babe, please
(Come on home)
Please come home, yeah
(Oh yeah, ya been gone too long)
I want you to oh oh
(Babe, babe, babe come on home)
I want you to come back running home to me woman
(Oh yeah)
I want you to think about when we walk through the trees together
(Ya been gone too long)
You know we had such a real good time
Whoa, here they come
(Babe, babe, babe, come on home)
I believe it's always calling
Do you feel the brown leaf against your face you ought to sing and shout
(Oh yeah)
The lyrics of Led Zeppelin's song "Baby Come On Home" tell a story of a man who recognizes his mistake and wants to make amends with his former lover. In the first verse, he reminisces about the happy times they shared on the phone, but his actions drive her away. He tries to move on with another woman, but she does the same thing to him. The chorus reveals his desperation for his former lover to come back home to him, as he longs for their past time together.
The lyrics carefully illustrate a man who has become humbled by his actions and realizes his love for his former partner. His desperation for her return is revealed in the chorus with the repetition of the lyrics, "Babe, babe, babe, come on home." The rhythmic beat of the music underscores the urgency of his plea, emphasizing the intensity of the emotion behind the lyrics. The final verse recounts how he is haunted by the memories of their time together, and he longs for her to return to him, unable to move on without her.
Overall, "Baby Come On Home" is a poignant song that captures the heartache of a man who realizes that he has lost the love of his life. The lyrics are a powerful reminder that we must value and cherish those we love, as the consequences of taking them for granted can be devastating.
