Page was able to bring in a completed arrangement of the melody, for which singer Robert Plant composed some lyrics. These lyrics are considered by Plant himself to be his best overall vocal performance.[2] The song also features a mellotron played by John Paul Jones to add to the orchestral effect, while Page plays a Danelectro guitar.[1]
George Harrison was reportedly the inspiration for "The Rain Song" when he made a comment to Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, about the fact that the group never wrote any ballads.[3][4] In tribute to Harrison, the opening two chords are recognisably borrowed from the melody of the first line of his ballad "Something" with The Beatles.[3]
The working title for this track was "Slush," a reference to its easy listening mock orchestral arrangement.[1]

The second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing
So little warmth I've felt before
It isn't hard to feel me glowing
I watched the fire that grew so low, oh
It is the summer of my smiles
Speak to me only with your eyes
It is to you, I give this tune
Ain't so hard to recognize, oh
These things are clear to all from time to time, ooh
Oh, oh
Oh
Talk, talk, talk, talk
Hey, I felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever go
I cursed the gloom that set upon us, 'pon us, 'pon us
But I know that I love you so
Oh, but I know
That I love you so
These are the seasons of emotion
And like the wind, they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion
I see the torch
We all must hold
This is the mystery of the quotient, quotient
Upon us all, upon us all, a little rain must fall
Just a little rain, oh, yeah
Oh, ooh, yeah-yeah-yeah
The Rain Song by Led Zeppelin is a melancholy love song discussing the different seasons of emotion in a relationship. The first verse discusses the springtime of love and how the subject has brought warmth and light into the singer’s life. The second verse describes the summer of happiness and the singer’s desire to avoid any negativity from outsiders. The following speech-like interlude expresses the singer’s feelings of past sadness and depression and how the love interest had cured him of those feelings. The final section speaks to the cyclical nature of relationships and how some rain, or sadness, must fall upon everyone.
Overall, the song expresses the ebb and flow of emotions in a romantic relationship and how the good moments make it worth the difficult times. The vivid imagery of the changing seasons reflects the impermanence of emotions and encourages the listener to persevere through the stormy moments that are bound to happen in any relationship.

As a old Progressive Rocker, I love the layers of music in this song. An orchestra can add so much to a song and stretching it to over 7 minutes, an absolute must. This is my favorite Zeppelin tune.
@alecdawg11
The stars aligned when these 4 met each other. There will never be another Zeppelin. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I've tried over the years to get everyone I know to love Led Zeppelin, but they never dig deep enough to hear masterpieces like this. It's not all Whole Lotta Love and Stairway to Heaven. These guys were so diverse. There's something for everyone to love.

So so beautifully said ❤❤❤❤

Prophecy in music. Battle of evermore. 70s music is full with end of days prophecy.
@TangibleAndroid
Um......Greta Van Fleet much? They're the new Zep, butt at least 10x better. I'm being totally sincere, you can tell that right?
