As much as Zep is accused of plagarism, you simply have to admit they do this sort of thing as good as anyone. Some sort of nasty, thrashy blues. It's compelling. They deserve their fame. Bonham’s feel is MUCH like the drummer in the original recording of this by Willie Dixon. Each snare drum hits at the last possible millisecond of the measure. It’s enough to make your head explode. How did Bonham get this good at the formative age of19? He seemingly NEVER disappoints.

Yes... it is asolutely incredible.. But at he same time, I heard a video (gone now?) - where he had trouble with timing of that "signature" shift from A to B flat here .. he also fighted Black Dog and some other numbers.. human after all :)) Nothing came completely natural, and Pagey struggled even more often, and so maybe JPJ was the only man standing - tall ;) At least I cant remeber him faulting ever - and thats why was there 😅

Funny you should mention that he was ahead of his time as he literally comes back to the recurring power chord theme (A, B flat) too soon in the 2nd half of the solo. It's out of sync with JPJ's bass which plays the same notes but a few beats after (at the the right time). Listen to it again and you'll see what I mean. Love Page but he did not nail this track.

Unpopular opinion, and it could change at any given moment, but this is def my fave zep song and has been for years now. And I’m not a major fan or anything, but I have heard their catalogue. Just appreciating the bands that have stood out and stood the test of time really. Tool is another example, like them, but don’t listen to them regularly, yet know their music and how to play a lot of it very well. This, including the guitar fumbles and static, is just so stand out. I don’t know why this one, but it really encapsulates the time for me and I feel like I was there. None of their other ones do it. I’m not sure why. But gosh this track rocks. I’m a metal head who loves anything extreme in music, not limited to, but absolutely cherish and enjoy where we’ve come from musically in many ways and through many different artists and genres. This is the only tune on LZ One where I am almost sure he played his LP Custom. After decades of "this was all a tele", he revealed that You Shook Me was a Flying Vee.. his LPC was his best guitar, used throughout 60s.. why the hell he would not use her for the album that would make or break Led Zep ? And he used LPC for Whole Lotta Love too - the bark is unmistakable.

Had the privilege to "see" them on their first American tour at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit. A small venue where they came down from the stage and joined the people of the dance floor. Shared a dube with Page as he pranced about and played his fiddle. Although a bit hazy in retrospect , I recall good times!
