Tear Drops
Lee Andrews Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I sit in my room looking out at the rain
My tears are like crystals, they cover my window pane
I'm thinking of our lost romance and how it should have been
Oh if we only could start over again
I know you never forgive me dear, for running out on you
I was wrong to take a chance with somebody new
I sit in my room looking out at the rain
My tears are like crystals, they cover my window pane
I know you never forgive me dear, for running out on you
Oh I long to do the things we used to do
I'm lonely and I'm blue yet I'll try to get along
Without you
Teardrops, teardrops, teardrops
I have to gain faith, hope and charity
God only knows the girl who will love me

Oh if we only could start over
Again

Overall Meaning

These lyrics from Lee Andrews & The Hearts' song "Tear Drops" depict a remorseful lover sitting alone in their room, watching the rain and feeling as though their tears are like the droplets on the windowpane. The singer acknowledges their mistake of leaving their lover for somebody new and is plagued by thoughts of what could have been if they could start over again. They express a deep longing to do the things they used to do with their former partner, even though they know they will never be forgiven.

The lyrics convey a sense of regret and heartbreak, as the singer comes to terms with the fact that their actions have caused irreversible damage to their relationship. The repetition of the word "teardrops" emphasizes the depth of their sadness and the weight of their remorse. Despite their loneliness and despair, the singer hopes to find love again someday, acknowledging that it is up to fate to determine who will truly love and accept them.

"Teardrops" offers a poignant commentary on the complexity of human relationships and the consequences of our choices. It highlights the fragility of love and the difficulty of repairing it once broken.

One of the best songs by Lee Andrews and the Hearts. They were fabulous. They sang songs for the broken-hearted.

I'm 75 and a Philly guy (born and raised) this particular Lee Andrews song just takes me right back to late grade school and high school. Lee Andrews and the Hearts had such great harmony. Good to dance to and good to "make out" to. I only saw Lee Andrews perform a show once. At that time the "Hearts" were two female back up singers. It was the early 70s and they were at a club in Hamilton, NJ (north of Trenton). I think the name of the place was DeNardo's or DiNucci's (I don't remember). A DJ from WTTM Trenton, Sal T, used to put the shows together. Sal T is in Florida these days
